no, don't use Digital ocean for VPN. they don't care about your privacy. they will tell the police or the court all your details when requested.

buy a few $1 domains and host public link shorteners, they will gain huge traffic and links hands-free, give it 12 months or so then implement Skimlinks or similar.
Not enough to retire on, you will get more than the cost of the domain and the setup is minutes.

Yes I have done it, I did it as a test maybe 5 years back and what I ended up with was some really high authority domains, the fact is you don't have to market them
1. buy a really good short url, either short and catchy or niche-specific
2. scrapers and spammers are going to start using your shortner quickly and it's going to be a lot of hits, if you dont want bots, cloudflare or anti bot, block hacker terms and bank names, I had a few cease and desists due to people using my shortner for these and malware
3. that's really it, the spammers put them into the wild, over time real humans pick them up

Host a plex server with content people would like to watch (Movies/Series/Adult etc...) I cannot suggest how to acquire these things but a quick goole search will give u the answer . Once hosted make individual accounts to give to users to watch the content. U could even sell accs for like $5 a pop. IMO thats what id use the vps for. Best wold be a vps in a DMCA ignored country tho.
