Does it matter what page?

Relative newbie so please forgive if this is the wrong place to post this.

But should my home page be optimized for my main keywords? Or does it not really matter which page? Does the home page of my website get any advantages in terms of SEO over a sub page?

And if backlinks point to my home page. Does that benefit the entire site? Or just the home page?

If you want your homepage to rank for your TARGET KEYWORD, then yes. If not, you should point the backlinks to the page that you want to rank.

Yup, the Homepage works way better, but you can rank other pages of the site the same way, just make sure to keep short and good permalink.

The homepage has a few negatives like you can't put review schema or FAQ schema on it.

I'd suggest using inner pages to target KWs and leaving the homepage for brand name/conversions.

Depending on your site structure will determine if links to the homepage will pass the juice and help your site. If it has poor structure and internal links you'd be better pointing to the individual inner pages instead.

You have to consider what route people on your site take to make a purchase / click an ad if you want to decide if you are best to get homepage visits, or page visits.
If you are just starting out, build your site good, with quality content, make sure the experience is all correct for earning revenue and continuing to attract visitors.
