It seems like every single small publisher out there is reporting traffic down 40 to 60%.

This is a paradox, though because the usual pattern is for approx 50% to be celebrating and 50% whining.

That's not what we're seeing with this update.

I've sampled Twitter, Reddit and BHW and it seems like at least 80% got hit on this update.

Who got all that new traffic now? Gotta be some big brand. Amazon maybe? Who's getting all this traffic now that small publishers are dead in the water?

something like that : crackshithacks.xyz

Spam is king in this update, that's for sure and those would surely not brag. So that makes sense.

But it's too large scale tho. Is crackshithack getting ALL this new traffic?

This was the exact question I asked myself as I was checking my competitors, which gain. Only one saw some gains the rest lost so much traffic and keywords.
The question remains if everyone lost then who gained?

User generated content tends to rank extremely well with this update, forum posts, yt vids, quora, reddit, Pinterest and so on.
Google also changed the snippet, this is why a lot of sites dropped off, it seems that if you optimized for the snippet before than you have lost them with this update.
The good news is that parasites are golden for BH with this update, the content doesn't matter.
On the other hand if you have spent a lot of time making actually good content and played by the rules then your fuck for at least 7-8 months until the next update.

I have seen Harvard sites making a comeback in this update, but besides that yea I’m thinking it’s tome for me to learn SMM and get my clients to drive traffic from there. I usually joke about this but let’s get serious: it’s the holidayS season, advertisers spend highest this season, now if a publishers has no traffic what will he do yup adwords instant traffic, will it cost him yes, but considering the high rpms I see this season they’ll manage but as usual I’ll leave the mike open prove me wrong

How did you "sample" that?

Of course those that got hit are going to be more vocal about it in "Google update"-threads.
