Do TLDs matter nowadays?

So I'm about to buy a domain to start an adult site, and I was searching for a short name.
Of course, almost every .com is taken, but there are some ".me" and ."live" and some others available.

Are TLDs important to rank?

What is your experience?

no idea, but i think its not only about ranking. if i share a page with a weird TLD, people will be less inclined to check it.

That's correct, but regarding SEO I've read multiple opinions

The question is repeat visitors

Example most people will use .com when they type a site

But it is a non factor unless you are huge authority

Google Chrome saves what site you like most by auto fill

Example I just type bl

And google will enter blackhatworld.com

I have no idea about the adult industry. But one thing I know for sure after experiencing it, is that ccTLD matter a lot. It could hinder your site from ranking on some country's Google SERP

I have seen a .review domain at page 1 but mostly the first pages of the niche you mentioned are still occupied by .com domains which makes us conclude that the TLD still matters. Not sure as it is my personal opinion based on my observation.

as others are saying its really just about what is easily remembered. if you were to get a .co domain it is going to constantly be confused with a .com which likely will send the traffic there instead of your site. I see quite a few .io sites these days that are easily remembered and do rank well of course so it is just a matter of what you can brand / drill into peoples minds to think about.
