Very good. Inflating those DR with google redirects makes no sense. Besides, DR does not mean anything in rankings unless those links are not topically relevant

How possible is this?

A drop from 50 to 5.
Some websites pump up DR entirely building backlinks off of Google properties with the sole intention of using them to provide guest posts service to gullible people

When Ahrefs cracked it, they lost all backlinks and "authority"

I'm aware of what link sellers do. But a drop from 50 to 5 is not very believable.

Anyway it's a step in the right direction. Trying to make their metric become more reliable is the way to go.

Hmmm, how long until this takes effect? Some of my most spammy sites rely on the g redirects, but to date, nothing has changed yet...

On one site I am monitoring, It went from 6 to 12! lol hopefully it stays like that and rises over time.

DR is and always has been a 3rd parties metric and THEIR interpretation of Google’s algorithm, same thing goes for DA too, thus will always be manipulatable. Never forget that and never rely on these metrics alone.. proper link profile analysis is where it’s at if you want to ensure you’re getting solid sites to target for links/outreach.

Still, not sure to which extent Google properties don't affect to the reputation of the site. Ultimately there are legit non Google owned sites that rely on this properties...

I think they are misusing the authority metric from Google as they should be treated as any other dominant 2.0 provider like wordpress.com, but not with the PR of Google itself.

I'm calling BS on this update. Here's a screenshot of a domain I took today with 1 backlink from the Google web forums... definitely looks fixed....
