Want to help my girlfriend

Hey all, how are you?

I'm here to gather some advice from you user of BHW: my girlfriend is a highly skilled photoretoucher and a more skilled photographer. She's working "the old way", without using internet to find client and also working part time on a supermarket to sustain herself without asking for help to her parents when there isn't lot of work for her primary job.

So, without further ado, i'd like to help her transform photoretouching and photography work her first and main stream of income. I thought of making a website where she can post all of her work and offers a service on a 3 level price, or something like that.

How it seems? What would you do to advertise a site like that? Google ads? There isn't lots of competition if i had to guess, but i should investigate more.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi,

By far the best way for your gf to get clients, is to rank on Google for something like "photographers town". The town bit is basically where you live and where your gf would likely want her clients to be from. Hopefully, your local town/city is reasonably busy for photography services - if so she will be in demand and can ditch the supermarket job.

There are a number of ways to do this, and for best results you should ideally work on them all as little projects (SEO, PPC, Social Media). Often, doing well in one part will improve other things too - it's all metrics at the end of the day.

Consider getting a Gmb listing, they work quite well for service businesses. Use the posts feature to showcase her work, run an offer etc. She'd get calls and traffic even as the website is coming along as sites take time to rank.

Don't forget to use social media to boost your main website. Instagram and Pinterest will be a good medium for this purpose.

go for local, it's always the easiest to target, tell her to do as many events as possible, christmas is coming, there's a lot of people wanting a professional christmas session for example. go for that... the more she does the more word will spread about her.

Tell her to make tutorials on YouTube and TikTok after getting solid base of subscribers she can sell her ebook on gumroad, people pulling 500-1k € per day doing this, Iam not even joking here.

Do you mean google my business? She already has a profile, but i didn't thought of making her showcasing her work, thank you for the tips!

If she has a solid portfolio and a reference or two, she could reach out to local advertising/marketing agencies and build a relationship there. You may be surprised by the results there- especially if you keep in touch.

Yes, she has a solid fashion portfolio as photographer and retoucher also, she lacks client due to the town where we live, but situation is getting better and better.

not adequate to worktime?

It would be best to look for a long term cop, but it's not easy to get a long lasting contract. I am a retoucher myself and it's damn hard to find someone willing to pay for the quality. Avoid low level retouching and look for : photographers who need additional help, studios, and brands working with magazines etc. High End retouching in general

You didn't mention where you live, myself I am not satisfied with rates like 10-15$/h.

Even though it's probably less than ideal, she should strike up some deals with companies that could use a photographer on-call like car dealerships or real estate agencies.

IG is best place for photographers, you can upload all of her professional photos where other pages might see it and share her photos on their page and link to your page. She might not get clients in the beginning, but it's a great way to build her portfolio and showcase her photos.

1. Open a real Instagram account
2. Upload her works there
3. Go to instagram.com/fiverr and other accounts for similar marketplace
4. Look for the people who liked and follow & like them
5. If you have more devices around, take different sim cards and do the process manually 2-3 times a day when you drink a coffee. Takes like 5 - 10 minutes to follow 100 people and like a bunch of posts.
6. Open a Fiverr account and add the services she is offering
7. Add the link to the fiverr account in your IG bio
