Hi all,

This thread will be documenting my journey building an authority site from the ground up. New domain and no previous success in IM.

This thread will be like a journal, hopefully inspiring others, showing my wins and fails, and also to keep myself accountable for not procrastinating on the work that needs to be done.

This journey is not gonna be fast. I have:
  • A nine to five job
  • Two young kids
  • Very little budget for content or links

So, not a lot of time and not a lot of money. I will be writing all content (and creating backlinks) by myself, so this might take a while.

I tried to find some writers with niche experience, but I found literally none that could meet my requirements.
I am active in my chosen niche myself, and can easily spot when content is written by an 'all-niche-writer' who just googled some terms and tried to write an article about it.

That's not the quality I want for this website, so I have to write it myself. Maybe later, when there is more budget, I can find some niche-specific writers for a higher price.

Another time-sucking hurdle to overcome is the fact that I am not native English (which you might have guessed from this post).

When typing in English I sometimes have to think very hard about words and sentences, which makes me lose the 'flow' of writing.
Therefore I am going to try to write my articles in my own languages first just to get the right content out, and translate them to correct English after that.

My domain is bought and I set up the basic pages and plugins.
I also did some keyword research last month and have 45 low competition keywords ready to go.

Goals:

I like to chunk down my main goals into smaller chunks.
This way I keep the big picture in mind, but also have concrete action step to take this day/week.

So, let's put some goals down in black and white:

12-month goal
  • Make at least $1
(I know this may be a very, very low goal for some people. But for me, this is also the proof of whether I can pull this off or not.
If I can't make my first dollar in 12 months, I will quit IM all the way and find some other entrepreneurial adventure :) )

3-month goal
  • At least 6 posts online

1-month goal
  • At least 2 posts online

1-week goal
  • Finish keyword research
  • Make better category pages with Elementor Pro, so new posts automatically get added
  • Write about page
  • Set up all social media accounts
  • Start writing the first post, and during that, make a template to use for every future post on what to do (regarding writing, editing, SEO plugin, autoposting to social, etc)

I will be updating this thread once per week with its progression, since I don't have that much time I'd better spend it on my site.
Small updates will be possible during the week while on my phone :)

Let's get this thing started!

If you don't have much money or time to create content, one possible solution is to DICTATE your content. I've posted how you can start. There are many different options: straight voice to text, dictation apps, youtube transcription, etc etc

So, not the best start of the journey. I got hit with a virus infection on my vestibular organ, causing me to feel dizzy and neaseus 24/7. Looking at a computer screen, let alone focusing on it is a no-go right now. Hopefully this will get better next week, so I can work at my goals.

Great! Just keep going and success will be yours!
Thanks, I will!

That's a good tip, thank you. This might me a bit less usefully for me though, as my post will be containing a lot of technical jargon and abbreviations. That's gonna need a lot of editing because in my experience it's hard to dictate that kind of content....

I will definitely keep it in mind for less complicated content though!

Well, not the best start of the year. Health issues took way longer than expected.

Anyways, back to this journey:

Last month I wrote my first post, 2892 words, that's it.

Now it's time to grind out the content!

Hope you keep health, will following
