But listen, if that's your budget then no problem. Google it like I said [HINT: I gave you the search string] & whenever a name catches your eye, google them. Somehing like XYZ Hosting Reviews.

After while, decide whom you prefer and pull the trigger. The key is in the research effort you're willing to put in.

Hostgator is excellent as long as you have a very low traffic site, the moment your site gets traffic and consumes server resources they will throw a fit and try to upsell you a VPS which will be equally sh*t.

Not surprised. I am trying HostMaria from here, and it's working fine for me. I am not getting enough time to try out newer cheap shared hosting providers, so I cannot recommend much at the moment.

If your going for cheap hosting, nothing beats HostKoala´s $5/Year DirectAdmin hosting with litespeed servers and ssd. If cheap is your goal. If you get more traffic then it can handle, either move then or use BunnyCDN to off-load the server, works wonders for cheap hosting.

What kinda quality are we talking about? Can they hold up under decent traffic? Are their servers relatively fast?

I don't expect the world for $5, but my host is slow as shit! Looking to move - want a better host to park projects on & plan to go with a premium for my best performing sites.

UUUUUUUHHH, I WOULD HAVE TO DISPUTE THAT.

Hostgator is fine for those jumping into the game. BUT once you get things figured out, their servers are sloooooow & any web-based emails from your site get dumped into gmail's spam folders by default (I can't seem to fix that issue).

I'm looking to ease on down the road.

Spend a $ while starting is hard for some people. Since the cost of domains and hosting a very miniscule I believe spending $2-3 on hosting shouldn't be a lot. Better options overall and go with big names.

Of course, you'd find different cheap hosting solutions. However, I'd recommend spending a bit more and get at least qualitative technical support, who would solve your problems, not just leave you on your own with them.
