Can't seem to open profiles without logging in.
such as instagram.com/cake forces a login

i think you using vpn. remove that and use it.

You can only open about 100-200 profiles without being logged in within a time period. Exceed that and you are forced to log in. If you are trying to scrape multiple profiles via the web or the ?__a=1 endpoint for the JSON details, you need to use lots and lots of proxies.

The block should pass after 12-24 hours.

Or if you are implying what I think you maybe perhaps are trying to imply, show the HTTP response URL for your profile requests, it may not be as you think
