Hi, I am looking to run a mini poll to learn how do people get video ideas. Feel free to share how you get your video ideas. I included a few options to choose from below.

1) You look at what your competitors are doing

2) Random inspiration

3) 3rd party tools? If so what do you use?

4) You're just reuploading content

5) If not listed above, what do you do?

I’ve always got ideas from my competiton - check their channels, find most viewed videos last month (if there is some huge spike, like if his average views per video was 20-50k and then 1 video got 400-600k I chose that video), spin the title and got inspired by the video.

I made about 10-15 videos with this method and then I realized this isn’t that good idea for new channel which doesn’t get any views yet because competitors have huge audience which can push their new content and its easier to get some videos to suggested. So metric - it’s working for them, it will for for me, isn’t that good idea at the beggining I guess.

Luckily I’ve found your website which I’m going to use now. It’s harder cause it shows ideas on title only and I can’t inspire that much but I think its easier to grow channel with searched trendy keywords and making series. That web app still has a lot of “bugs” and some generated ideas don’t make sense (like “how ´´ got so rich - it fills only companies so it doesn’t make sense, could be famouse people instead) but it’s powerful app and I think with some spins and added value it makes so much sense!

Yeah that's what I used to do. Check out the competition and copy what they were doing with a little spin of course. And yeah i was asking this question so I could figure out a way to improve the viral video maker on my web app. It works 70% of the time, just needs a touch-up. May add a feature to where people can check out the competition for video ideas now that you've mentioned it. Thanks for the detailed response!

I use youtube trends, and check competitors video content type

google trends is another good resource to get information on new viable and actionable trends

2) Random inspiration
I don't even look at the competition, nothing new there. Competitors look at my ideas.
