Is Upwork oversaturated for writing in late 2020?

I'm thinking about starting an Upwork account for my content writing services, but I've heard conflicting stories about the platform. Does anyone know what the current state of Upwork is like right now given the uptake in freelancers during the pandemic and generally for writers on the platform?

Thanks.

It is very hard in the beginning as too much competition, but once you get a few clients who can give you a nice review, then it gets easier. But content writing is a very saturated niche in upwork, but you only need a few high-paying clients to make some cash.

Yes it is, so is webdesign, workpress, web development. You are better off analyzing the jobpost , selecting a niche with very low competition , working on learning it for 3 to 6 months and then start bidding. If you gonna just be bidding without response your account will be suspended which is their way of saying you are banned.

If you can write in a language other than English, it will be easy for you

This might be good advice, thanks. No room for generalists I guess.

Unfortunately not.
