I turn 30 last week and this journey thread documents my progress from a food delivery rider to establishing an authority site.

A little about me

I served as a soldier in Singapore for 7 years and I have had experience in SEO by ranking my local business keyword and earning approximately SGD$2,000(~USD1.5k) a month in selling of leads while I was in service. I have left the service on October 2018 and began my business full-time in the events industry. However, in late January 2020 when CoVid-19 strikes, this entire industry is decimated to a point it leaves many business owners in my industry bankrupt and others struggling to stay afloat. Fortunately or unfortunately for me, I do not have high overheads to run this business but sales is 0 since early Feb. I have turned to food delivery to earn some money to tide myself through this pandemic.

The Journey

This journey focuses primarily on reinvesting a huge part of my earnings from Food Delivery on my electric bicycle to this project. I am estimating a monthly investment of approximately SGD$2,000(~USD1.5k) for this project until it brings me positive ROI. Earnings from my delivery gig and the costs of establishing the authority site will be tabulated here for tracking.

The Project

The domain is a one word local tld with huge relevance to the specific niche. It is one of the most competitive niche locally but I'm watching tons of [Top 10 xxx] articles ranking for the most competitive keywords.

Sources of income from this project will be mainly by providing services to companies and affiliate marketing in Singapore and hopefully we get to sell sponsored posts to local brands.

Costs incurred so far

Domain Registration USD$72
Domain Hosting USD$120
Website Design USD$161 (Totalling USD$353)

affiliate marketing in Singapore?
SG can forget it, market is small and not say a lot into these IM stuffs, to them is literally " scam " but ironic quite a lot of them got scam by scammer just simple call them or from emails

Yea, the population is small but spending power is huge here when it comes to e-commerce. The retailers are dying from the sky-high rental costs and consumers are turning to e-commerce to avoid the insane mark-ups.

With regards to IM stuff, the trending topic currently is exposing the Youtube ads where they post ads about how "I make $2.1m in revenue for dropshipping last month if you come to my free course". What I will be doing is to rank my top 10 articles first before I approach businesses with a proposition to change out one of the top 10 to them. I believe that by showing value upfront, it will help to increase the conversion but we will cross the bridge when we come to it :) Currently I am at the stage where I have nothing to show for, hence I will not be contacting the businesses.

I think you misunderstood.

I sold leads generated from SEO while I was in the service and I am doing business in the events industry. I did my own SEO.

Yea, the price is insane for a .com.sg domain.

Why you took that kind of domain extension. As I think your are a delivery rider before, now your thoughts working on local audience? I mean local seo?

I happen to see you buy .com.sg , guess u Only target Singapore market but i feel u should target the world.

I still don't know what you going to sell I do know affiliate stuffs right? so your site will be selling so call course etc affiliate ?

side note you talk about SG , no offence to anyone , any countries , I do lots of Indian IT professional there, even I do some research a lot India folk doing SEO , IM u name it already target at SG for sometimes

I took this domain extension because the domain is a one word domain with huge relevance to the specific niche I am targetting - ie. doctor.com.sg.

Currently, I am doing food delivery and I am reinvesting my earnings from food delivery to establishing an authority site locally.

It will be in English.

.SG domain make sense. I am guessing lot of sites from us and Australia might be ranking in your niche which you will be able to knock off with local tld.

No no. I asked why you choose country extension, not .com?
You have thought to target on local SEO, because when you choose a country wise domain you can easily outrank those other sites from that niche. Telling you from this experience.

Currently, I am doing food delivery and I am reinvesting my earnings from food delivery to establishing an authority site locally.
That's good, please manage your time to do project and you can achieve what you want. good luck.

interesting , kinda curious why u don't take .com

Happy days with your business buddy. What is the broad niche? Assume it is related to events!

You don't read too well do you?

He is in the events industry and this stopped due to Covid.

I also work in the SEO sector for Singapore at the agency, although not in IM. Just Health businesses SEO, but we also plan to do some research and expand into that at some point. Bestinsingapore is killing it, though. With a .co domain no less. That site got a ton of investment in it but it grew insanely in just a year, so IM is definitely working in SG.

Following, Good luck :)
