New functionality: BHW Marketplace thread bumping

I have a specific query, i posted a promotional post on Oct 25 (5 days ago) and my last reply in the thread was 24 hours ago to a customer query. Theres no reply in my thread in last 24 hours below my reply. Can i post the promotional post now?

No, you cannot bump a thread within 72 hours, unless you are replying to someone. This is irrespective of your last promotion post, as you still need to be replying to a member.

Then you can include your promotional post once you are replying. So if someone posts asking for details in the next 48 hours you can reply to them and in one of these include the promo details.

This rule is good. It makes sense, mostly. What I don't know still is, why was a bump at all needed is the OP was posting after 24 hours but before 72 hours. The rest seem great - particularly that a seller can really converse with the buyers freely without being limited by the earlier rule. Great positive move, I think!

I like it, but hopefully it won't be abused by sellers manipulating people into replying to their threads more often to bump them. Interested to see it in action in the real world!

First off, this isn't a rule change. This is additional functionality that goes with the existing rules.

The point of this functionality is to make it easier for buyers and sellers to converse regularly. Therefore, if you're not replying to a customer, you are basically promoting your thread. Any clarifications or corrections should really be thread edits, rather than replies, so if you aren't responding to a customer, then you're promoting.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question but historically every reply would bump a thread simply because that's how the forum worked. We've added this way for sellers to reply without bumping their thread to increase engagement while maintaining our current rules. Does that answer your question?

I would say this to be good addition. However, it could have been a lot better if the cooldown was just not an hour. I never had been a seller in BHW but had been one in many other forums from which I know that you'll not be spammed with questions on the sales thread each hour.
If this feature for solely made to avoid bumping threads frequently and only reply to questions, then I'd say a 12h or 24h cooldown would have been better.

I'm late to replying here, but I fucking love this.

Shit sites will leave vague rules or not vague rules that can easily be broken by accident. I claim such rules exist broadly so that the website can interpret them in a million different ways and do whatever they want whenever they want (like gaypal).

Putting this in place makes it impossible to break this rule, and I love it.

It s just Marketplace threads but you may be on to something.

Can you elaborate on how long and some ideas as to why please?

I see old threads being bumped (especially by newcomers), even threads that have been inactive for the past year or so.

I saw this feature on another forum and I thought it would be a good idea to implement it here.

I don´t think I need to elaborate as to why a thread that has been inactive for months (or even years) should NOT be bumped unnecessarily. Especially to say stuff like "thanks for sharing" or something similar.

We are actually pretty anal when it comes to making a change and look at a lot of different reasons/factors.
