Impossible to tell without:
1) knowing what theme you are using.
2) knowing if you have made any modifications to the theme.
3) knowing if you are using any caching plugin.
4) knowing if you are using a plugin for the related posts.

Theme is Focusblog. I am using W3 total cache plugin. No modifications to theme and no plugin for related posts

Well, I do not have that theme installed anywhere. 90% sure you have to clean the cache before you can see your changes.
The best option is to not do it with css (bcoz it will still be there, albeit hidden), but do it with some kind of wp hook, or using another template that does not have a sidebar or something. If you can post the php code for the sidebar (look in the theme templates), I can probably suggest you something. Otherwise, wait for someone like @Festinger may be. He knows a thing or two about wp for sure.

Use Inspect Element feature of your browser and locate the proper tag.
Using CSS is not very SEO friendly btw.
Engines can still see and might consider the content so better to remove hard code.
You might be seeing the cached version of your site. So clear cache before checking the changes.

That is theme feature. Just explore theme options. You will find it.
