White hat is where people happily link to you without any ounce of a dime exchanging hands. Just for the benefit of being nice & friendly.
Black hat is where you are being downright nasty with your link building, and just buy them.

this is true, I got one page been link by other site owner and their website DA , traffic is good
In return benefit me a lot for few days , traffic spike every single min than now no more.

i am not aginst black hat but what happens if you get penalized by google before you get big.I am guessing thats why some people avoid black hat.

white hat and link building do NOT go together.
as mentioned above, white hat is when people naturally link to your site.
Some will say guest posts and niche edits are white hat... No, they aren't. Paying for links is against google TOS.

White, Grey , Black are all different type of hats given by the community. As long as you are building links naturally and they are related to your site, its white hat and wherever you are building things in bulk, automated fashion with unrelated sites , it can come under BH.

Black hat is where we all end up doing as starters why? because we keep mindset not to dark stuff until we realize that doing white hat stuff will never get us where we want to go.

White hat linking happen without any deliberate effort but may take years to get there. BH is the real boss shit.
