Yeah, I actually prefer less control but less safety net. People losing $1M like this just shows that they've rushed into something they shouldn't.. people make millions of tfs each day without them accidentally burning all their tokens

Contracts are use on the Ethereum blockchain for running code.. so you could have a contract for a cryptocurrency where new tokens are minted and sent to different accounts depending on inputs the contract gets.
However the contract often won't have the functionality to withdraw any tokens that are sent to it.. ie. imagine that the contract can have a balance, but there's literally no mechanism to say "send all tokens to another account"
So the project tells everyone not to send tokens to that contract because it's only used to create new tokens and distributed them.. and 99% of people listen, but 1% don't and this happens. Smth like that.

Found it interesting to look through the scams they're monitoring actually.. would be great for the industry to have one large crowdsourced database of scams in the crypto space where people provide details of them being scammed and the ETH/BTC wallet, then it being updated real-time to there.. new users that don't know their way around could be directed to the site and could check any address they're considering sending crypto to first.. would be a great thing for crypto and not really that hard to create either imo.
