Hello BHW. This is my first journey thread. Many people think that building amazon affiliate websites in 2020 is dead. The goal of my journey is to prove them wrong!

I will hand grow a niche website that will use amazon affiliate program for monetization. As I don't want to lay all eggs into one basket, I will also try to monetize it with amazon MBA and KDP later in the process, when the site starts to gain traction.

The niche is one that I already worked with 3 years ago. Then I started studying, moved into the other corner of my country and had not much time left to take care of my old website. So now I'm back in the old niche to prove that not only this niche isn't dead, but amazon affiliate isn't dead too.

I made this thread to motivate myself to work hard every day on the new website. I will update you regularly with traffic insights and amazon affiliate sale insights. This time I wont give up, it's time to make something cause the weather sucks, clubs and bars are closed because of covid and I'm bored to hell right now.

Wish me luck guys and gals!

Amazon Affiliate is definitely not dead. Only the methods have changed. You're on the right track, my friend.

Nice! So i guess you would be skipping keyword research and moving straight to content?

FIRST: Thank you guys for your support, I will definately keep you updated! I want to use this thread as a commitment to keep myself going and not lose motivation half way.

But Amazon is paying affiliate so little commission
Thats why I want to use also other methods to monetize the website. I dont want to rely only on amazon affiliate. The reason why I still like amazon affiliate is that the cookie lasts 24 hours and the people can literally buy anything and I still get commissions. On my old website, I got many commissions from products that had nothing in common with my niche, so I hope this time this will work too.
good luck mate
but you created your journey on money making section
I'm sorry, I was a bit in a hurry scrolling through the forums and I remembered seeing many journey threads on making money section, so I created the thread here. Maybe mods can move the thread? @Zwielicht @BassTrackerBoats

I will use a lot of my old keywords, but I still want to look for new keywords with google KW planner. Back then I used market samurai, as it had a free demo, but it is not available anymore. Also for new keyword ideas I will use Keyword Shitter, as it is a powerful and free tool!
Looking forward to updates.
Have you bought buyer intent kws or does it on your own?
I will do KW research on my own. As the niche is fairly small, it is easy to find many non competitive keywords. At least at the beginning I dont want to buy most of the things I need for this project. I want the website to be hand grown and I will take care of it like it was my little baby.

UPDATE #1:

Today I bought hosting for ca. 3€ per month. I set up wordpress and all the basic plugins I need for this project so I can fully concentrate on making content and designing the website. Also I needed to make some legal stuff that is required here in Germany when you create a website: Impressum (You are legally required to leak your address and personal data openly available on your website. Yes I know german internet law is outdated and sucks), Datenschutzerklärung ("Data protection disclaimer") and also "Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag" (A contract about you collecting data from users, like cookies, login data and so on). Sometimes setting up a website in Germany is a pain in the ass, but if you dont do all the legal requirements right at the beginning, some lawyer who has too much time will come and sue you and you have to pay like 20.000€ - Money that I definately not have as a university student.

To sum it up in numbers:

Money Spent: 3€
Money earned: 0€
Website visitors: 0

(I will make more detailed stats in the future, but for now there is no point for this)

Whatever happens, please update us! Was really thinking if i will continue what i had started back then. But the rates were so low now :(
Good luck to you.

how you are going to monetize your site? (outside amazon commissions)

I plan to use Amazon affiliate, MBA and KDP. Maybe ad banners too but I'm not sure yet. Also I wrote this already in my thread.

Following your journey.
I made a similar initiative at the end of 2018. My biggest aim was to get huge amount of search traffic from Google. So I focused on SEO and quality content. It is a big battle, and after 1 year I understand there is no such a thing that low-comp keywords. Now I try to work with 1,500-2,000 words articles, which isn't cheap on cost side, but at least captures some good positions in mid-comp keywords, in the 20-40% of the cases (I still feel that is low).

The fact is that you will need massive (10,000+ per day) amount of traffic to convert some of them into sales and commission.
