Where is this competitor buying their links?

So there's this competitor of a friend of mine who are ranking really well, but their links are almost certainly on a PBN of some sort. I know some of the domains but don't want to just post a list in case it belongs to someone here.

How can I work out if they're one of the services here?

You can't really find this out unless you ask your competitor. You're doing a good job by not posting it publicly

Can you use ahrefs to get a list of out bound links on the pbns and message all those webmasters. Someone should reply.

Can you see the pbn links pointing to his site?

what you can do is message everyone here that offers PBN offers. mostly those which have sticky threads. ask for domain samples. And see if it matches with anyone you have.

I don't think any PBN seller would be stupid enough to hand out details of their domains so easily to anyone who asks. What then is the essence of the 'private'?

Why do you want to know if the domains belong to any PBN seller on the forum? So you can buy links from them?

Since you have the website details you can message the webmasters directly from the sites.

Yeah I've asked for various samples but none match so far but that could be hit or miss anyway.

Yes it's so this guy can buy the service since it seems to work for his competitor.

I'll maybe try contacting through the websites - that's a good idea perhaps, I imagined they probably aren't real contact forms etc but I'll try that.

Is it only me who noticed it? most of the time it starts like "it's not for me but a friend of mine". Is it because their friends can't type or too shy to ask?
how difficult is it to say: "I have a competitor and would like to figure how they got some links".

As said above, it's either you find a footprint or ask your competitor.

Because he asked me to look at what they are doing, I did and thought hmm it's a PBN. I'll see if it's one over at BHW.

I'm going to try this, don't know if they'll really have emails set up but I think it's the only way.

I wasn't taking a swipe at you... it's just lately I noticed some threads where people ask 'on the friend behalf'.

As mentioned above... why don't you try to contact some of those sites and see what replies you get.

I've had really good trawl through them, they are all much of a muchness but I think they're actually real blogs, but part of a group of related topic "influencer" types. Mums, dads, lifestyle, that kind of thing. Have contacted some of them to see what's what.

Part of it may be a PBN they're offering blog outreach services and offer articles on sites priced by DA - doesn't sound like your typical family WFH mum.
