I wish Apple didn't turn its back on enterprise, it would be nice to have 10 Gigabit Ethernet port on a mac laptop as well as a really nice GPU such as the RTX Quadro 5000 with 16GB of vram rather than the crappy AMD Vega.

They used to get very less money (in their word) per license... and nothing after that. Ofcourse, it did not make sense to them to continue.

If you can justify the purchase, sure! Make use of it, and any operating system will work.

The strange thing is that most people, who makes their money directly or indirectly from video production or other creative jobs, they mostly use Apple products. That many people can't be wrong choosing Mac over PC imho, those must fit their purposes better and it needs to be more to it than just the logo. If you're just an average user, PC is probably better.

These days Macbooks and not just Macbooks, but notebooks as a segment slowly but surely is getting obsolete with devices like the iPad Pro in existence or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. They managed to get to the level, where they can fully substitute a notebook.

I wouldn't buy a Macbook, not because some Windows notebooks could be a better, wiser or cheaper choice or not even because it's cool to hate Apple, i wouldn't buy a Macbook, because there's a superior product called iPad Pro.

Tablet and laptop are completely separate products, you can't say one is better than the other as its comparing apples and oranges. You may be able to do your work on a tablet, but many can't. I can't and don't want to, I need a stable keyboard to work comfortably, I don't use even touchscreens on laptops, I turn them off immediately. So to each its own...

Laptop: Looking and still hesitant to go Windows but not sure if I'm tech savvy enough to deploy and support a linux distro without killing my work productivity.

Laptops are always tricky, and market/budget/usage dependant. So, I wouldn't advice on that without knowing more about the requirement. However, here's what I suggest in terms of the hardware (atleast):

1)16gbs of RAM.
2) Good quality SSD (Samsung Evo series has never failed me, yet).
3) Intel Processor, preferably i7+. AMD is much more buggy, and I don't want to suggest it at this moment.
3) Win 10 - Trust me, you will love it. It's pretty much plug and play. Just buy an OEM license. Costs around $5-9. Ubuntu is pretty good for most part too, but because you used Mac for so many years; I don't suggest an Open Source OS right now.

What I look for (if buying one online.. e.g. Amazon) is a DOS laptop with those specs sorted by Customer Review DESC. Buying a Windows Laptop is waste of money by the way. You will probably pay $50 more when you could just pay $7.

I have a hackintosh I used every single day, and it's freaking fast, cool (temperature), I use windows on a VM for those pesky programs that don't run on mac yet, but 99% of them do, I never had a virus since I switched, never had my computer slow down because of an update, I am running the latest version of MACOS.
The only downfall is that not many games run on MACOS, but I have an XBOX for that!
So there you have it, if you don't like their hardware, which is awesome by the way (otherwise companies would not be copying it) get your own compatible hardware, follow a guide at tonymacx86.com and you wont regret it .

Interesting! I started using Hackingtosh VM a few weeks back, but it's super slow. It does what I need it to do though (preview a react native app in ios simulator). Seriously thinking of adding a real hackintosh to my array of machines. Are you using opencore? Can you provide me some details about your hardware please?

I've always been a windows person but this year I got a huge taxreturn so want to buy a new laptop. The laptop I have through work is a 2018 macbook pro 16 inch which is good and something i'm considering to buy for personal use however the new macbook are not like the old ones can't exchange parts over heating issues and so on. @Gogol as someone who has a £2500 budget what laptop would you recommend? I live in the UK so have access to Amazon i'm looking to buy a new laptop this black friday/christmas/cyber monday. I will use is for IM stuff and watching movies and a bit of programming

Well, for your usage; any mid budget laptop should do. I haven't had good luck with laptops though. I will suggest you not to buy Samsung and HP laptops in $500-$750 range. I have had both, and both of them had problem with the hinge. That's probably happened due to the amount of rough handling I do in general with gadgets, but it also shows that the laptops are not that hardy. Probably Asus laptops? I have one given by the office. It works fairly well, even for lightweight coding.
