Getting Web Design Clients

Currently sending:

80 Dms on IG
20 Dms on FB
50 LinkedIn Dms
and 50 Youtube comments
1 post on every IG, FB and LinkedIn account daily to get clients.

So I'm reaching 200+ people everyday although they are not always specifically qualified. I'm testing different niches.

What better actions could someone be doing to get clients? or what could I be adding to these?

Following this thread because I'm in the same boat, just Graphic Design. I tried DMs on Instagram and Cold Emails. Sent over 1000 DMs and 1000+ cold emails. Instagram DMs had more replies. With Cold Emails I got 9 replies from 1000 emails sent. 0 clients.

All my clients, however, came from GMB and just finding me online. Kinda sucks that its just a waiting game for my potential future clients to find me.

Getting clients 101

The Phone Strategy
Step 1: Make a website with your portfolio and present yourself as you know everything in that niche (copywriting skills)
Step 2: Open google maps and excel
Step 3: Make a phone number list with all the businesses who have bad websites or potentially need your service / product
Step 4: Call them and say that they have a problem on their website and want to talk to the manager
Step 5: Say how you can help them getting more customers to their business

The Letter Strategy
Step 1: Find a business on google maps, linkedin or facebook that potentially need something
Step 2: Open Word and write about their problems they are facing and how you can help them
Step 3: Print it out
Step 4: Send it to them. Write on the letter that this is an important letter etc. etc.

... or visit their business

You can offer businesses to work for free just to build your portfolio. Those companies might be interested working with you in the future or refer you to someone else. In worst case you just have something for your portfolio. Or you might just work on some "imaginary" companies creating building out your portfolio.

Ah so your doing EVERYTHING other web designer or freelancer is doing out there now. What makes you different?

Your supposed to be working in a "creative" field be creative in the way you are going to reach out to someone, more so if you are trying to land work with an agency. Business owners get tons of emails and requests per day ( I get around 100 myself ) id not hire any of them as it's all the same scripted / sounding BS from a burner email and shoddy work.

If you want my attention actually show you care and spent 5min looking into the business and knowing who you are going to contact and what the company is about - IT Might be more wasted time on your part than sending out 100 generic emails or DMs* but anyone who does read it is going to see its different from the rest..

* As for DMs maybe it's a generation thing but if you are targeting serious businesses why would I want to hire you from a DM. I know I wouldn't maybe I'm not of that generation but anyone who DM'ed me asking for work id bin.

NO the post above DO NOT WORK FOR FREE. For fucks sake. I can't remember the last time I had building work done for free just to get a bit of portfolio work for that builder. NO OTHER industry does shit for free why the fuck should web designers. It's the biggest way to devalue your self, your industry and profession.

I don't think thats true at all but you do you. What do you think a free trial is (Netflix, Spotify, etc.)? It's a way to get potential clients by showing your value. You can't just charge people without having anything to show (here: portfolio).

It's a combination of both. You can't solely rely on either of those.
You need to find the right product for the right audience.

You are comparing a good and a service. Goods such as Netflix / Spotify accounts are easy to render, and don't take much to do so.
Services such as web design take time to deliver, and while doing it for free can be good for a portfolio, client quality does come into play and after the job if the person doesn't have referrals....

I'd say it's better for both of you to focus on quality rather than quantity.

I'd rather think that providing value is everything, by enlisting a portfolio you are providing the prospect value so they would want to invest in you, and not the websites you've made.

The fact that you are comparing a subscription based service to someones income is a joke, and clearly don't understand the value of your time or your work.

If you build me a site for $0 why should I pay you $2000+ for the next project? Or whatever the next fee might be there is no scale to it that makes sense.

You get pre approved for a subscription they work as people forget they have them and don't cancel. If you enjoy the content paying $10 a month or whatever it maybe isn't a big deal. You already know the pricing, your happy to pay it.

If you pitched me for a job at say $1000 and you turn around and say "hey t2van you know what I need the portfolio work, ill do it for free" any other future work id expect a $1000 discount moving forward as you took that off the last job and this one isn't as complex.

Honestly, and people come here posting saying it's hard to earn money when they give away time and effort for free.

Rather than positioning yourself as a jack of all trades, position yourself as a specialist in few areas which have big demand - such as e-commerce sites, restaurant websites, car dealer websites, real-estate agent websites etc. It is easier to target the prospects and show them your portfolio, sample websites. And, in this case, conversion happens much quicker.
