Ahrefs has built in "UGC" backlinks which means comment backlinks website has.You only need to filter backlink type from dashboard.

But it´s well worth the time and effort.
Try with me.
Chicagotribune, one backlink per domain, UGC link type, traffic 200+ gives you just 9 blogs.
Chicagotribune, one link per domain, platform blogs, dash in URL of the referring site and traffic 200+ gives you 581 targets. If I run them through SB with filters I showed before, you get 127 blogs
If you don´t limit links per domain the difference in results is huge (26 vs 2600).
I don´t know why it is like this, at the beginning I too thought both methods should bring more or less the same results, but they don´t. Maybe that´s just because UGC was introduced in ahrefs just recently (03/2020) and it will improve over time.
And maybe I am just wrong and you can correct me. Anyone can try and your experience is different than mine, pls. correct me.

Quick question: would it make sense to filter by how RECENT the post is?

New blog posts will have lower url authority, but you don't have to mind. I often do it so that I comment on the high authority older post AND on some of the newer posts too. This way I get HA nofollow backlink from the older post as well as LA nofollow backlink from the new post (but my comment is among the first, which means it is much closer to the post and I believe it carries much weight. The authority of the newer post will grow with time anyway.) and I will look more trustworthy to the blog post author as I care and read more than just one random post, if you know what I mean.

i don't have access to ahrefs but instead used semrush, filtered out backlinks using UGC then export them and put into scrapebox page scanner.

yeah i got like 3k of them. then i rescrape the whole page of every website and got 65k, right now im rescanning the 65k urls using your footprint to filter out dead pages. i need to get like 100k auto approve comment list for my tier 1.

Kinda waste of time since all blog cooments are n00folow.....but these backlinks are good for diversity and citatations.

As targerts to find good blogs scrape blog agrregators like feedburner etc.
