Hey all,
I do joint ventures all the time, and am currently doing multiple JV's with members of this forum. From time to time I get burned, although over the years I have been able to weed out the players from jerkoffs, for the most part. But every once I am fooled, like I was with Riot from this forum.
I hesitate to post anything in the 'shitlist' section, and I debated whether or not I should, and was NOT going to do it, until I found out today that not only did he not perform as a partner at all, he also stole the work I did and put it on another server. What a guy.
He approached me because his previous partner left him..they guy is completely broke and always was asking me for money...I advanced him $1250 total, and he completely took advantage of that. I even flew him to my home, etc all on my expense. Too bad for him because I have multiple 5 figure JV partners, and he blew the opportunity to be one of them.
So, here's my recent letter to 'riot'. Avoid any and all business dealings with him, as he will NOT perform.
"I have debated what to do about our JV for the past week or so, and I have come to some decisions that you need to be aware of. I need to be completely frank and honest with you, which is where your actions have put us.
First, let me say that I should not even have to be writing this letter. I have never had a partner who has performed as poorly as you have. I have multiple JV partnerships, and several of them earn me multiple 5 figures each month?you are blowing a huge opportunity to work with a solid, and reputable partner who knows how to grow businesses.
I agreed to JV with you because you said you had done a similar project before, and that you were earning 30+ k per month?it should have been a simple project to implement?take your background knowledge, and my resources, and get the project up and running fast. I seriously wonder if you ever truly had that experience, and I also am sure if I spoke with your previous partner, he would identify many of the problems that I have foun in your business habits.
I extended every courtesy to you, and showed trust in you even though I didn?t know you from Adam. I have to date approximately $3800 invested into the project of my money, plus my time, and you show absolutely no respect for that. I paid to fly you out to my home, and that is really the only time you got any work done on the project. That was back in mid September. I have advanced you around $1000 on the promise that we would have this project up and running quickly. This money was supposed to come back to me out of profits in our JV, which I don?t see happening now. I have paid for every expense, and done everything I said I would. I am sure you will agree that I have fulfilled my part of the JV and then some?because that is the type of partner I am?I do what I say I will, when I say I will. Since mid September, you have given me excuse after excuse as to why the project has not moved forward. Over and over you have given me dates to which specific milestones would be accomplished, and EVERY TIME you fail to come thru?EVERY TIME?
As a side note, I don?t think you get the fact that relationships are built on trust and respect. Trust is earned by DOING WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL DO. You have failed miserably in that regard. I am at a point of zero trust in what you say?I have multiple examples other than missing deadlines, but I think you will agree with me on this without having to name each example. Every time with you it?s another excuse?as if you are the only one who deals with life?losers make excuses ? winners get shit done, period. I have waited another 75 days since the first deadline to get this project done?and it?s been a constant stream of excuses and bullshit as to why it?s not done?oh, and while you are bitching about stuff, I get a message that your heading out for a weekend to go see the JayZ concert?I hope while you paid for that with the money I gave you, you felt at least a bit guilty that you have not fulfilled your end of the JV.
So, this is where things stand?you force me to make decisions that I don?t want to, but I must. I am going to finish this project, with or without you. I am going to make it a success, and if that means I find a new partner who will assist me, then so be it. I will do that. I have paid for everything, so I backed all of the work up, and am prepared to launch under a different domain, etc. I?ve got all the databases, etc and can easily replicate anything I don?t have currently.
I have conflicting feelings about giving you another chance, because I doubt it will make a difference. And, since I cannot trust anything you say at this point, the ONLY language that I will accept from you is RESULTS. So, here is how your ?last chance? will work. The current servers expire on December 13th. You have until December 13th to have the site up, running and able to completely take orders. If the site is not completely ready, then I am moving on with another partner. I am going to start putting feelers out there to find a new partner, in the likely event that you do not come thru. I have no reason to believe you will based on your performance, but out of sheer charity I am giving you one last chance to make things right.
The ball is in your court completely now?perform, or I dont want to have anything to do with you. If this letter seems a little ?harsh?, or you can sense that I am upset, well, you are right. I have every right to be livid with your behavior and lack of respect for me, and for what I have done for you, and to move this project forward. I have never been treated so poorly in a JV, or had a partner who performed as miserably as you have to this date. I hope, for your sake, you can turn it around right now. But only action will tell?not your words.
