We all going to die?

Nah, we will be just fine.

SAA is harmless to us, humans. We rarely have things to do at 200 km altitude. lol That's the closest the anomaly comes to the surface. On the rare occasion when we do have things to do there, it's inside a spacecraft, but even outside the radiation is nowhere close to lethal for the amount of time a spacecraft needs to travel through it.

The anomaly is dangerous to the electric devices of satellites, spacecrafts passing through it. SAA was discovered in the late fifties, so it's nothing new, for some reason the media is hyping it up only now. I remember studying about the Van Allen belts in the early 2000s in the astronomy class at the uni.

we all die eventually but not with this

I just hope it's quick and painless.

It has implications for us. IT says in the article it messes up compasses, on board computing.. off the top of my head shipping and flights could become problematic which covers basic transportation of goods and foods.

Even IF it doesn't affect us down here it can effect satellites or at least make them venerable from reading the article. Again GPS, communications etc..

This all to me looks like a build up to a solar flair that some have been predicting that will hit this year - dont know enough about it or the subject and not consumed nearly enough coffee yet to try and become an expert either.

Is it a bad day?
This is the first thread I opened today.
I need to check on my wife.
Need to make sure we die together.

The lowest the anomaly comes to the surface is 200 km and it's called South Atlantic for a reason. It's not a global, but a local thing. How does GPS navigation work? The receiver calculates its distance from 4 or more satellites. We have 31 operational GPS satellites up there at the moment, 9 in reserve and 3 being tested. Receivers should be able to find more than enough satellites outside the area of this anomaly at any given time. Navigation shouldn't be affected.

It has zero direct impact on us down here. It's another question that satellites and spacecrafts passing through it are affected, which i already mentioned, but this is the case since there's space travel or we are sending stuff to space. Aircrafts don't go that high. This 200 km altitude - where the anomaly is the closest to the surface of Earth - is 20 times the height, where aircrafts usually fly.

This is an anomaly of the inner Van Allen belt, which is known since the late fifties. There are two of these belts most of the time, sometimes there are more. They aren't constant either, it's not really surprising that this anomaly is changing too. They say, probably it has something to do with the pole reversal, which is a slow-moving thing, think hundreds of thousands of years.

The only new information in these articles, that the SAA seems to be splitting. Other than this it's just another thing the media is hyping up for no good reason.

I though World will end in 2000 (y2k), but nothing happens.
Later everyone predicted 2011 will be the worlds end.
Later Corona Virus and still nothing happened.
Dont worry, we will survive.

I can't argue! You know more about me on the subject and or are just smarter than me :)

I just read that article and then read a few others all where saying similar things with effecting satellites, I think there was a fuss when magnetic north moved a few years ago with electronic issues or needing to be updated I just thought this was the same kind of thing.

Obviously as the split gets wider then wouldn't more satellites need to be altered or shut down? Either way nothing that's going to happen in my life time.

As mentioned I thought this was more of a drip fed article in relation to a solar flare that's supposed to happen or over due for one..

Stay away from some of these fear mongering and "here's all the shit that's going bad today in the entire world and nothing positive to report at all" media outlets people. They are hell bent to fcuk up the already minuscule sanity and clarity we have.

:(:(:(
