Perhaps that was a bad example. I've seen many more of them indexed with no links pointing to them.

Seems like they implemented the noindex tag recently. If you check the cache of already indexed links,, you can see there is no nindex tag
this is the most logical explanation I agree with this

because the mata tags are not only the ranking factor. there may be more factors that are causing rank.
