Some claim is good to always on prolong the computer lifespan
whereas some claim is not good?

so which one is true?

These things designed to run 24/7. Don't buy the cheapest, worst quality stuff and it should be fine. Obviously there are parts, which are more prone to faillure such as the hard drives, if that happens, simply replace them.

That's true. I have everything backed up on a few external hard drives. And then I have all those hard drives backed up on one huge one. That's how I solved that problem, never at risk of losing much of anything, no matter what happens.

And if it just so happens that my main lap top and all the hard drives break at the same time, well damn, I can't defy acts of god

From my experience, cooling fans are the ones that break first.

Unless there's some radical change in what websites, software use; a pc built around a modern cpu will probably last for at least a decade maybe close to two before it becomes too outdated.

i will be moving to a brand new win 10 Ryzen machine next year

quite useless conversation - computers need to be updated on ~3 year basis in order to meet our increasing demand for performance.

as for the question - computers contain of components and they all have different lifespans (gradually replace the components and it will live for many years)

my computer runs 23 hours a day, and it runs as perfectly as it did in 2014 when I purchased it. Last month I changed the PSU, but that was due to happen anyway since I always buy the cheapest PSUs and they usually come with 1 year warranty, and yet, mine had lasted for 6 years. So nothing to complain about, really

I have a computer that has been working allright for 5 years. Not a single thing broke even tho power supply wasnt the best.

I also have another older PC that is still working after about of 10-15 years.
