Do .edu or .gov backlinks need to be ********?

I was wondering if a nofollow link from .edu or .gov websites help with link juice.
I mean, its still a link from a highly trusted site isn't it? So it should be a maor factor in Google's SERP algorithm.
What are your thoughts on this??

If its nofollow then it won't help because google won't index it as a backlink to you so there's no link juice.

In my experience, no-follow links help to rank, which is what matters

You will not get as much link juice from a no-follow link, but a well placed link can still earn you traffic to your site. And who really knows the different algorithms the different search engines run. I believe any link is a good link except for a bad neighbor situation.

A nofollow link maybe don't give you link juice in google but for others engines works, just use yahoo site explorer and search the backlinks for a website that has nofollow links and you'll see the nofollow links registered as backlinks.

My advice? Do the nofollow links from good blogs or websites.

OP, just concentrate on your Link Building. Getting a linkback from a .EDU site itself compensates the absence of Do-Follow tags

I usually do a google search for edu/wp-signup.php

This will bring up a bunch of blogs. I use sign up because sometimes you get lucky and can create your own .edu blog and then you can customize your links to your sites.
