Do I need to build links to my GMB listing? I know Reviews aren't everything but I've heard mixed opinions.

I have no idea.

You can do anything as backlinks like - Blogs, Videos, Citations, Classifieds and more.

I am building citations for my clients GMB Listings. Also do some Map Embeds and Reviews to look natural.

I've tried building links every which way to the GMB listing, nothing has really moved the needle.

What I've found works better is the basics. Maps, citations, etc.

Buildings links to the GMB page (brandname.business.site) works well though.

Building a backlinks for GMB page isn't necessary, take it as a option. What important for GMB page is, Business Citations and Press Releases, but use the same exact NAP that's on your GMB Page. Also, request your provider to use the NAP on all listings. Map Embeds helps as well.

Let me tell you can use your map cid for link building to your gmb, also try to implement map embed in various sites this helps a lot.
Also dont forget about citation indexing . The most important factor for GMB Ranking.

Build the citations, map links, add schema to your website, driving direction map links, foundational links.

These help much to rank any GMB

- Link using your CID URL with raw URL or exact anchors
- Map embeds
- Driving directions
- (co)-Citations

Use these in guest posts, PBNs, PRs, web 2.0s, niche edits (if possible) and digital PR pieces along with your typical links to your location pages.

Is linking to the CID still working for you? I've found it's lost it's power the past few months.

Yes, works fine. Either way it's better to have a link to it in there, than not, imo.
