Pointing domain name to a new server

Hi,
I have no idea which sub forum I should post this, I hope I am in the right place,
so I am going to move my website to a new host , but ill keep the domain name with the same registrar,so to make my domain name point to the new server I only have to change the nameservers ?
I googled it before posting ofcourse, and even contacted the support of the hosting company, they told me to just change the nameservers.I just want to make sure

Yes it’s an easy process depending on your host they may even do it for you if you feel uncomfortable doing it

Hi mate, it's the right section to post this question. Anyways, as far as I know, all you have to do is changing the nameservers in order to link your domain name with a host I hope I helped you somehow. Good luck

Yes you can just change nameservers to your new host. Remember that means all dns responsibilities will change to your new host so if you have emails set up on the domain for example you need to move those as well.

Also it’s a good idea to back up and transfer your site to the new server first, then test it as well - you can do this on windows byadding an entry for the domain and new server ip in your hosts file.

mince you confirm it’s fully functional on the new server only then change your nameservers, that way you’ll have zero downtime.

totally, that's the main reason why I had to ask about it here, I wanted to make sure I avoid any downtime as it is my first time moving to a vps, thank you very much
