Hi,

I don't want to spam the blackhat forum with my questions but i can't find a topic that talks about this and the answers i found on the internet are pretty inconsistent.

So the question is:

Is 512MB RAM enough to handle a website/blog, even if i use wordpress themes/plugins ?

If you dont have any traffic then it can handle. Incase you have traffic and you need plugins also i suggest 1GB RAM.

No one can answer this with certainty it depends on how much resources your plugins/theme uses and how much traffic you have. Most hosting providers allow you to easily upgrade so give it a go and monitor how much free RAM you have.

In my personal experience, it could work for sites that do not have traffic. You might still need to add some swap memory for preventing the mysql server crashing every now and then. Moreover, don't use any panel like webmin/cpanel if you have 512mb ram. If they run as services, they will kill most of your memory.

If you are running it without cpanel or other dashbords and depending on the amount of traffic you have it would run ok. I would recommend at least 1 GB of ram for any site starting out. The more traffic, post and so on the more resources you are going to need.

There's a lot of factors that come into play. What type of server is your website hosted on? RAM can play a role in performance, but also CPU (think # of cores and threads) as well as the CMSs you're using, database architecture, plugins or extensions, and many other factors.
