How do you hire writers in upwork?

What strategy you put in order to find a good writer in upwork, I just posted my first requirement about I really don't have an idea how to vet them to get a good one.
Do you guys use a template,? How much you charge for a native writer? And have you found your best writer for cheap rates?
Kindly share your thoughts it will be really helpful to me.

I like to start with fixed price jobs for one single article. This way you can easily ditch the ones you don't want to work with.

I usually state the niche and the article length in the title (also include them in the body). Make sure to select the correct job category and describe what your expectations are (proper grammar, punctuation, structure, etc). Don't forget to mention that you won't accept spun and other crap content. You can ask for sample articles, and I like to hide some kind of codeword in the description which applicants need to mention in their cover letter. This way you know if they read it.

Then you need to check the cover letter. You can immediately decline the ones that contain errors.

How many applications have you received? Don't forget to ask for some sample articles, preferably in your niche.

I don't hire from Upwork specifically but I don't see why it should be much different.

I personally also want to see previous work and 1 trial piece.

I also make it clear that first month is trial month and both of us can say no during that time worth obligations.

My rate is $0.02-0.04 per word.

When I hired pre-Internet - classified ad to voicemail with complete job description in recording to resume request with provision they leave their name if they would submit, Half never followed up. Even setting recruiting appointments with follow up confirmation, half the confirmed never showed. Put up small obstacles and you'll eliminate a lot of candidates

Genius, had not thought about something like this to weed out bad candidates!

I usually trial test them with single article and a fixed price, that helps me narrow down those willing to work on my terms and allows me to check quality before hiring anyone for a big project. That of course is only after I have checked their reputation etc.

I do the same but I can only weed out something like 50% of the applicants this way. But it's absolutely worth it.

I have found a great writer on Upwork. He writes flawlessly well, does great product descriptions with bullet points and in bulk really, really quickly for a very fair price.

I just put out my requirements for the job and made sure to have a pretty large budget in order to really attract professionals. I think that is key on Upwork.

You can't really compare the two. You can find great writers on both.

How much you guys initially pay for 1000 words article?

I have paid 25$ for my first 1000 words articles. After that only I knew for the same or better quality writers available for10$ itself.
Some writers will accept to write for low prices even though they knew they are capable of more than that offer. It all depends on the situation as well. couple of times, because of urgency content I have paid more.

You can not spend that more money on all content. For the money site and tier 1 links, the content quality should good. You have to fix the amount based on the quality.

But its always best to go with trial for an article or two (Only if the first one seems satisfactory)

My personal recommendation, don't pay by the word, pay by the hour.

I usually hire my content writers for $15-$25 per hour. I prefer paying them hourly because they can dedicate time to researching the topic. If you only pay them by the word, then they have little incentive to dedicate time for research.

I got 2 responses for my earlier hire posting, in that I hired a guy for $10 1000 words, he has some good experience in writing based on the niche.
He will deliver the article on Monday I guess.
And the other was from China she is also good but she said cannot complete the task for my given time.
