Quick guide - Copying competitors theme or plugins

So quick guide here, if you want to copy their theme go to isitwp.com and it tells you their theme, along with hosting provider and whois info.

If you want to copy their plugins, right click on the page and click inspect. That's how it is on Google Chrome atleast. When inspecting their HTML you can do CTRL+F and search for:


http://www.sitenamecom/wp-content/plugins/(plugin name is here)

From this "inspect" area you can also find the theme if you want to do it this way. A bunch of folders pop up with valuable info like theme folder and plugins folder if you want the full list that way.

Thanks for sharing mate. If we download the website files using darcy ripper for example and just transfer the theme folder to my panel it is going to work? Is it that simple or I need to take any other step?

No this does not work sadly. WordPress themes contain a lot of PHP, a server sided language that a ripper cannot read. You will receive static HTML files which you could use for a HTML website, but not as a WordPress theme.

Many sites don't allow you to access directories like these as it shows "403 forbidden" meaning you can't just access any directory directly and view all their files, this will only work with sites that aren't strict about their security.

You do not need to access any directories. He was aiming at viewing the homepage source just to check which plugins the site uses, not to copy them.

As @mrtruehybrid mentioned, this doesn't always work due to read/write permissions on the server and if the site owner has blocked access to those directories on the serve.r

Best way to find out what plugins or theme a site is using is by inspecting page and going to the 'Sources' tab. You can usually see a breakdown of the file structure and get to the plugins folder or just view the source code and search for /wp-contant/plugins/ to see what's in the source of the page.

Sometimes people change the theme name, but forget to delete or update text in the css file(s) the developer had commented out.
