What in the Hell is a 'Karen'?

Mistake me if i'm not correct but it used to be the case that a 'Karen' was simply a term used to describe a socioeconomic bracket of spoilt, preppy, starbucks going, upper-middle class young women, usually with blonde-hair that drink mocha lattes and 'I can't even' to no end. Not particularly renown for wits.

But now, i'm seeing the word plastered all over reddit that's being used to racially profile everyone from a 90 year old grandma a little bit upset with poor customer service to police women that aren't even american responding rather appropriately to members of the public being belligerent to simple and polite police questioning.

What is the deal? Seems it's turned from a light-hearted spin on the age old 'dumb blonde' adage to a full on racially-charged and misogynistic type of hate.
I wish people doing this kind of recording would learn that sticking a camera in anyones face and sometimes completely misrepresenting a situation when it often doesn't even concern whatsoever doesn't make you a hero.

But really, anyone else think it's getting ridiculous?

This is something that happens to all the hip words. Their meaning gets distorted and distilled in many ways... Exactly what happened to "simp", "doomer", etc, it's worse with political terms like "liberal". It's very similar to playing Chinese whispers.

Yes, it's ridiculous.
 
Bitches with bowl cuts who think they own the world and thrive on complaining to businesses for minor issues, as well as reporting other people to the police for things like letting their dog poo on a foot path or not indicating when they turn a corner.

They've been around for decades, but we never had a name for them. Kind of like simps.

Basically Karens are scum who should be dismantled at every opportunity with equal amounts of aggression and nuclear-level disrespect... it's the only way they learn.
 
The type of woman who would tell Native Americans to go back to their own country.

But on a serious note though, Karen is really just a mindset and not only a name, at least on the Internet that is. :p
 
It's actually pretty discriminating. Not the word itself, but the meaning of it. Just like the word "nigga". A random word with a deep and discriminating meaning.

You take a specific group of people (black people or in this case white women with a specific behavior), give this group a name and start to abuse/discriminate/insult this group. It is a very bad practice and its actually hilarious this happens in the US and is also done by black people, which would get pretty pissed if you would call them "nigga". What they do is actually the same. Take a group of people, judge them on their looking/behavior and use a specific term to insult them. Same fucking situation.

So yes, I find it ridiculous and I can't laugh about this, because the same people, who are fighting against racism are also the ones, who call other people a "Karen" and discriminate against this group of people.

All kind of discrimination is shit. No matter who it is about. No matter what term they use to insult.
 
A Karen can be a woman of any color. But it's often a white woman screeching to see the manager/some act of extreme entitlement at the smallest inconvenience.

It's true to a point mate, and believe me I hate bs where there are double standards like what you're saying, but the difference is that if you call someone a n***er it's solely about their skin colour, but when someone is being called "Karen" it's about their behaviour not their skin colour.

It was created in the first place to be a criticism of women that happen to be white that behave a certain way.. you don't get many black or arab women called Karen, but I'm sure there is an equivalent there for other races too.

I see people on the right and left use Karen as well, and black and white people using it. Doesn't seem discriminatory imo, but that's just my opinion.
 
I wonder how many bhw members have to say "I love you Karen" to their wives?

Trade them in for a different model.
