Do you do good keyword research for the topics of the articles?

So say for example I don't know what keywords to target, but I just know I would like you to write 10 articles about, Ford Fiesta (just an example, of course).

Would you do keyword research to come up with 10 different titles that actually have a chance of ranking? Or should one come to you with the titles and keywords already in mind?
