[Journey] Getting in shape/exercise/healthy after a LONG break

The scale says 65 kilos now. Though I doubt I could put on 3,50 kilos in 6 days. Anyway I will continue this "overeating" throwing money in my mouth :p thing for at least 30 days, and we'll see how much I weigh on day 30.
You could definitely put 3-4 kilos in 6 days especially if you were undereating and/or not taking enough water. But most of it is probably water/fluids weight :P don't expect to keep the same pace with putting in on weight.

Good luck with your journey, my friend. Don't forget to make daily pictures, to keep track of the progress.

Ive been regularly working out for 2 years now I think, so here's my opinions:

No need for any supplements or worrying about what salt you eat. Just have a balanced diet and cook your own meals. That way you won't have too much salt and sugar like in the processed foods.

The pain in your leg could be from wrong shoes, take a break and maybe try different ones once the pain is gone completely.

I run around once a week, currently 8.5-9km in 45-55 minutes. Just slowly increase it, I started with 2.5km too.
For other exercise I do calisthenics, the most effective way I've found (for gaining muscle) is to do every exercise until you literally can't anymore (make sure you're not sacrificing your form though). Once you do an exercise well, switch to the next harder variant, for example after regular pushups you can switch to pushups with elevated legs.

And always make sure you have enough rest time between training each muscle set :)

I believe in supplements. But everything I take, I take for a reason. Vit C smoking, Vit D not enough sun, Spirulina protein (among other things), etc. I don't take anything just for the sake of taking it.

About salt. Honestly, I like how Himalayan salt looks and tastes. I also believe it's superior, at least to regular salt and even to sea salt. I also have a lot of Himalayan salt from a couple of years ago, so I'll stick with it :)

I HATE cooking. Hate it. You get burned, you get cut, you waste time, you have to dirty up a ton of stuff, which then you have to wash. Ugh! Hate it! Besides, when I get hungry I want to stuff my face immediately, not cook for 19 hours and then eat. Fuggetaboutit :D

Sometimes, it just means, forget about it :D

The pain in my leg is probably from bad shoes. But also many years of inactivity. Both combined I think. It's been 7 days since it started hurting, and it still hurts. So annoying, so limiting. And every article about foot pain says to rest it. Well if I rest it, I can't use it, so I can't exercise. Goddamnit...

Thanks for the comment :)

So I woke up an hour ago, went to the bathroom did what we do in there, got on the scale and it says 64.2

Okay, from 61.5 to 64.2 in 7 days. That makes more sense.

I guess I hope that I can get to about 70 kilos asap, and then it will slow down. Like the muscle memory thing. I never had 70 kilos in my life, but I had close to it. So I figure my body "knows" how to get us to 70 kilos. Muscle memory, bone memory, body memory, whatever.

But at some point I figure I'll hit the max, and then weight gain will become a super super slow process. We'll see how it goes :)

Good luck with your journey, my friend. Don't forget to make daily pictures, to keep track of the progress.

haha thanks man. I took a few pictures when I started, but that's pretty much it. There's no need for pictures, I got a mirror and a scale :p

---

Okay, for the past 2 months I've been having pain in my right shoulder. Out of nowhere, started out of the blue. I didn't carry anything heavy or did anything to cause this pain. It doesn't make any sense. At first I thought maybe I caught a cold and it will go away, but here we are 2 months later and I still feel it.

Last night I think I figured out why. I went to sleep and I turned on the side, and felt a bit of pain, and then I realized that I'm putting all my weight on that shoulder. So I'm sleeping on the right side, or at least falling asleep on that side.

I thought about it for a second, and, well, in the room where I live, I also work. I have 3 computer monitors and 3 lap tops. And so at night they're turned on, producing light. But if I sleep on my right side then I'm turned to the wall, and there's less light "in my face". So last night I turned off the 3 monitors and covered the 3 lap tops, reduced the light they produce by about 95%.

Another thing, I have like 5 pillows on the bed, and 2 covers. And because one side of the bed faces the floor, I never keep anything on that side so that it doesn't fall to the floor. So everything ends up being on the side where the wall is. But that also means that as I sleep I can't be comfortable. On the one side I have light, on the other side I have stuff. So last night I took away one of the covers and 4 of the pillows. I left 1 pillow only and 1 cover.

I fell asleep on my left side, and I woke up on my left side.

I think this is what's causing it. I guess my shoulder after many months of sleeping this way just started suffering, especially also because I'm just skin and bone, so there's no muscle to keep it strong, also my bone strength is also suspect. What this thread is all about, trying to fix everything now.

So I'll sleep like this from now on. And in about 2 weeks my anatomic pillow arrives, which should improve the situation even more.

I’m not sure what your goals are, but if you’re trying to gain muscle I wouldn’t recommend cardio just yet. Unless you overeat to facilitate what you lose from cardio + the amount needed to gain weight, then it could lead to you losing more weight.

Also try hitting the gym (if they are open) , don’t be scared of what other people think about you because at the end of the day they had to start somewhere to, and most people don’t judge. (In fact they’ll help you out)

If you’re just trying to stay healthy and active then cardio can work well, but lifting a weight once or twice can’t hurt ;)

My goals are just to be healthier. To move more, to eat more. To gain weight, to be stronger. Just all over, make everything better. For now i just want to hit everything. And in time i guess ill do more specific things with more specific goals in mind.

I dont think gyms are open yet. But im so out of shape that any exercise works on me now. Running, planking, knee push ups, pull ups, any light exercise and i get "inflamed". I mean, you know, muscles hurt so good stuff is happening.

-----

Im going perfect with supplements so far. Thinking of adding fish oil to my daily supplements intake. Will look into it soon.

------

Im going good with no smoking when i go for walks and shopping. Its funny, i dont even crave cigarettes anymore when i go out for short periods. At no point do i think how i wish i had a cigarette.

But of course its not real. Because i know that soon enough ill be home and smoke again.

Its also not real because all these short trips outside are very goal-oriented. I walk, i do some pull ups, i walk back. I walk, i doy shopping, i walk back. Goal-oriented, walk fast, do what i need to do.

Unlike going out and hanging out wih people, where without smoking, what do you do? Do you kill yourself out of boredom and the guilt of sitting around not doing anything productive?

Hm, oh well...

------

My foot is finally better, yay :)

So ill be getting back to running and exercising again in a few days, just to make sure my foot is completely healed up.

But of course now i have another problem. I need to look into how to run properly, which is not a problem.

But i need to figure out what shoes to buy for my running. And oh my god, like always, its complicated. Do you just buy any running shoes? Minimalist shoes? 5-toe shoes? Custom insoles? What do you do?

Goddamnit...

--------

Ive slowed down a tad bit on the overeating, but im still eating good. Much more than my usual. And oriented on heavy stuff. Protein heavy. Just foods that will get me some weight hopefully, but still on the healthier side. And im trying to keep it as diverse as possible.

I started at 61.5 kilos 11 days ago. This morning i was at 64.2, and by night i was at 66. So i think ive made some progress. Ill keep trying.

How do you all be so fat? Im stuffing my face with hamburgers and chicken burgers and eggs and tunas and peanut butter and spirulina and all heavy foods, and my body is just like nope, we wont store much of it.

Whats fucked up is that i can eat 20 times per day for a month and make some gains. And then i can not eat much for 48-72 hours and lose all my gains as fast as i can blink. And i dont even have to get out of bed to lose it.

Well anyway, must stay vigilant. Every day. No skipping days, no skipping meals, no skipping snacks.

#PigLife

My anatomic smart pillow still didnt arrive. Hoping to have it at some point this week. I cant wait :)

------

Thats it for now. This journey is alive and well. We keep on keeping on...

Good luck with your journey mate. Don't forget to click daily pictures to track your progress.

So just to update. I'm still doing my daily walks and pull ups. Also started doing this other exercise... but I have no idea what it's called. So there's a bar to my left and my right side, just above the waist. I jump up and grab both bars with my hands stretched, holding my entire body weight. And I go up and down. Anyway no idea what it's called, but it's really hard, especially if I try to really go up and down as much as I can.

Oh I started getting calluses on the inside of my hands because of the pull ups. I looked around online, and apparently wearing gloves comes with a few issues. It's kinda retarded.

1) Supposedly you're weaker if you wear gloves. Like there's a stigma about it. Bitch, I am weaker! Also, bitch, I don't two shits what you think of me. So this reason is totally invalid for me. I mean, weaker in the eyes of who? I don't know, this is a stupid reason.

2) If you live with the calluses eventually your body will get used to them and they will flatten out and you won't have them anymore, and you will gain strong hands. Okay... I don't carry bricks for a living, and if there's a war I won't be carrying a sword, we'll be shooting at each other. So why the hell would I need "strong hands"? Get fucked! I like my soft hands, feel better on my dick hahaha :p ... seriously though, supposedly with gloves you'll avoid the calluses (for the most part anyway) but you won't develop strong hands. Again, invalid reason, I see no benefit to having strong hands.

3) This one actually drinks some water. Supposedly if you wear gloves you're not exercising the muscle from your elbow to your wrist as much. I mean, okay, may be. This is at least a reason that'd valid, if true. But it doesn't really matter, I'm really out of shape so I'm good with less than 100% of exercise on any of my muscles. They'll hurt anyway :p

So since I had some bike gloves around here, I started wearing them the last 2 days I did my exercises. It's soooo much better, I love it :)

My foot is better, but I'm not getting back to running yet. I need to go to a podiatrist, or orthopedic surgeon or something. I have an old wound that I need to check. My recent injury is not related to it, at least not directly, but that old wound is acting up and I've been hiding from it for over 10 years, mostly because the only solution to it is either bone fusing or putting some titanium piece of metal in between the bone, and I don't like either of those solutions. It's related to my big toe. I'm super, super, super depressed because of it :(

------

That's all for now. We keep on keeping on...

I'm still eating and taking my supplements, that's going well.

I started at 61.5 kilos about 15 days ago, now waking up to about 65 kilos, going to sleep at about 67, give or take. I'm very happy with this progress. Perhaps could've been better, but it could've been much worse also, so I'm happy with this.

------

Called about my smart pillow today. The girl on the phone said the pillows arrived at the company, and they should be shipping them today, so the pillow should be here in about 2-3 days. Really looking forward to it.

------

I need to go to a dermatologist. I have some small things I need to check out. I looked around and found one that studied or lived or worked in the US for a couple of years, and I'll go to that guy. It's probably gonna cost more than any "regular" dermatologist, but I want to get as best and as latest knowledge as possible. I don't consider my country to be modern in medicine, not in technology and not in knowledge. Also not in professionalism, attention to detail, and so on. I also need a doctor who can speak English, as best as possible, so we can talk for real. Otherwise I struggle to communicate properly 100% in my native language.

------

Are you talking about dips? It's a pretty common exercise :D

Are you talking about dips? It's a pretty common exercise :D

Yesssssssss, that's it. They're a bitch to do bro. Harder than pull ups. Who knew :D

I can do about 8 correct-ish pull ups, and another 2 barely, per set.

But the dips, I can barely do 5-8 half-dips per set, and die :D

Wouldn't have thunk dips are harder than pull ups before I did some honestly.

Okay, so I'm having the most pain currently in my left hand. The area between elbow and the wrist, right around the middle of that area on the top side of the hand. And it doesn't really hurt if I put pressure on the left hand, it mostly hurts when I move the left hand (area around the wrist and below) up/down/left/right/circular. Every day when I do my pull ups and dips, the pain is renewed.

But it's not the type of pain where it's like 'oh my god something is wrong.' It's the type of good pain, where something is happening. Bone is expanding, muscle is growing, you know, the good stuff :)

I assume it's only happening on my left hand because it's a bit weaker than my right one. So the left one needs to make up to get to where it can handle what the right can. I guess soon enough they'll be equalized, and then they'll either both hurt or none will as I push forward.

Today I managed to do 11 pull ups in one go, yay :)

---------

So during my walk today, right after I did 11 pull ups and 8 dips, I continued walking, and my heart was pumping unusually strong/fast. And that's not necessarily a problem, but I was feeling weird about it. I was feeling uneasy. So for the rest of my walk I mostly massaged the heart area in circular motion. I don't know why I did that, I just did. It calmed me down. At one point I also stopped and sat down for a few seconds.

I should really go get like a full body check up. Blood, heart, bla bla bla everything that can be checked.

---------

I keep eating and taking my supplements. Sitting at 65+ kilos in the morning now. Wanna push it to 70+ kilos. At this pace (3.5k gain in 15 days) it should take me another month and a half, give or take. Just as long as I can maintain my #PigLife stuff my face with food all day routine.

---------

That's it. We keep on keeping on...

Hey man, good to see you're doing your best to improving your health.

I have also posted one of these threads on Reddit almost two years ago, it might be an interesting read for you:
I'm now two more years into my journey. If you're looking for any advice, feel free to hit me up in PM if you have any questions about diet/lifting.

My pillow arrived. It's good, the best I ever had. However, it may not be the one true love :p

air_plus_smart_pillow_40x60_07.jpg

See, that circular thing there is like the orthopedic whatever part. And it's good when you position yourself. But I get restless, I can't position myself and stay like that for 6-12 hours sleeping.

So I may have to go for a different pillow for my main head pillow. And the one I purchased now can be backup, switch, secondary, between legs pillow.

But anyway, very happy with the pillow it's good.

--------

I've been thinking about how to continue with my exercises. And an hour ago I landed on a video that appealed to me.

The reason I clicked on the video is because of the title - "best way to start working out for beginners"

The reason I really liked it is because he says to do all the exercises I like doing. So to sum up:

Pull ups - I've been half-assing them so far is seems. I'll start doing negative pull ups.

Push ups - I can do 10 of these, correctly too. At least the first time I do them in a day.

Dips - I've been half-assing them so far is seems. I'll start doing negative dips

Squats - Okay not an issue

L-sit hold - no fucking way dude, can't even do 1 second... so I'll do the boat hold

Handstand - Okay not an issue, but with support, leaning on a wall or something

Hang on the bar - Okay, will do

Also to add. I'll be doing the pull ups and dips with gloves, as I do. But I'll be doing the hanging on the bar without gloves. The difference is that hanging doesn't involve movement, and I can position my hands in a way to where I don't get those calluses, or not much anyway. While the pull ups and dips require movement, and there's just no way to not rough up my hands.

Okay, and I'll try to do these every day. That way if I skip a day once in a blue moon it won't be a big deal.

--------

Everything else is moving nicely. I've definitely broken the 65 kilos milestone. I think I'm at around 66 now, waking up weight.

--------

Okay, we keep on keeping on...

This journey is still going. Im up to about 67-68 kilos morning weight, and pushing 69+ before sleep weight. Im looking to break the 70+ kilos milestone.

When i get there i will slow down and maintain for a short time. Im 30 years old and i have never had 70 kilos before. I want to give my body just a bit of time, maybe a week or two, to adjust to the new reality.

-----

I bought a hand gripper. A nice one. I can adjust between 10 and 40 kilos heaviness.

I can do many more hand gripper exercises and more correctly with my right hand than with my left one.

Serves me right for not balancing and jerking off with both hands all these years. Now the right one is powerful and the left one isnt :p

-----

Im still taking the same supplements. I havent skipped a day. But now i also added fish oil to the mix.

I said in one of my previous posts i take each supplement for a specific reason. Well i dont take fish oil for a sprcific reason. I just take it because it seems everybody and their dog praises it.

Also, the fish oil i got comes frol the liver of a shark. And when something comes f a liver of a fuckig shark... well... you just take it and you ask no questions :D

------

Im still exercising. I do about 20 pull ups, 40 squats, 20 dips and 30 push ups daily

I also strech here and there before and during my exercises. I also hang on the bar for about 30-60 seconds daily, and i walk daily. And on ocassion ill stand on ny hands, leaning up against a wall.

And i use the hand gripper that i mentioned above. Whenevr i feel like throught the day i just pick it up and do some squeezes, with both hands.

Thats it for now as far as that goes.

-----

Okay, things are chugging along in this journey here. I will update again when i have some updates.

Keep up the good work boyssss

I never made a real journey on here about making money. I guess I don't need a journey to keep me accountable, because the almighty $ keeps me accountable. And I also don't need a journey to get help, because all the info is already out there, you just have to look, and connect dots, and be creative, and experiment, and yall know the drill.

But it's time for me to start looking after my health a little. I was planning to join some exercising/nutrition/supplement forums and take a stab at it, but after a bit of googling it's almost like there's very few forums out there, about anything. Whatever happened? Go back 5 years and there were 1,000 ACTIVE forums on any topic.

Well anyway, it is what it is, I'll just do it here. I NEED YOUR HELP!

Backstory:

Age 0-15 - always outside running and playing, later on the school's football team, and basketball team, and running team, breakdancing on the side, super active.

Age 15-23 - working 10-15 hours a day, mostly as a waiter. Always standing, always moving around, always being active

Age 23-25 - pretty much bed ridden (for all intents and purposes, 0 exercise)

Age 25-30 - pretty much chair ridden (for all intents and purposes, 0 exercise)

Today:

So here I am, 7 years of NO exercise whatsoever, and it's about damn time I start moving. My muscles are gonna atrophy, I'm gonna start getting sick, and then it's hard to go back.

For now I just need some light exercises, and to make them routine. I found this and did it, and I like it:

I know it's children's play, but it heated me up, it got me breathing, I moved. I think I'll start doing this every ? days, and also running for ? amount of time every ? days.

3 questions:

Can you fill in the question marks for me? (taking into account I'm getting out of 7 years of total inactivity, but I do want to push myself).

Thank you

Depends on how well you're recovering.

Nutrition and sleep is also another important factor to recovery. So I would suggest starting with 2-3 session of light exercise and 1 running session per week. Slowly up the running distance and frequency eventually.

Focus pushups & burpees alongside. Good luck!

So to update. I'm still keeping up with this.

-----

I'm exercising daily, some days more and some less.

The problem with exercise when it's hot is I die, and the problem when it's cold and it rains is that the equipment (bars) is wet.

I'm also getting annoyed by my headphones dragging me down... because the stupid cable... so I'm thinking perhaps getting bluetooth headphones.

I'm trying to keep my body in relative pain. Muscle, bone pain. Whatever, as long as it hurts, good things are probably happening. But it is taking more and more exercise to stay in pain.

-----

I'm still taking my supplements daily. Still taking all the same ones, haven't stopped or added any new ones. But I'm probably add a few more soon.

-----

So I went from 61 kilos to 68 kilos in literally 20 days. And now, I'm stuck. For the past 30 days I've gone maybe from 68kg to 69kg.

I guess the amount of food I now eat daily was enough to take me from 61-68kg, but now it's just enough to keep me at 68-69kg.

I was expecting the rapid weight gain to slow down at some point, but not at 1kg gain in a month. Granted, I'm not really pushing the food as much as I was in the beginning, but I'm also not taking any protein shakes or anything like that. I'm just relying on food to gain. Well, maybe the Spirulina I take can be considered a protein supplement, but I don't really take large quantities.

-----

At this point the changes I'm making have slowed down. I just ran out of rice the other day, so I'll be making oat milk tomorrow for the first time. I really hope I like it.

I'm waiting for my soap and body wash and shampoo and toothpaste and dishwashing liquid and the stuff I use for the washing machine to all run out, so I can switch all to organic natural bio healthy bla bla bla silicone-free perfume-free choices. Oh the hair gel too, waiting for it to run out so I can get some sort of gel that doesn't damage my hair and scalp.

I'm running out of mayo, so I have to see what kind of mayo to buy that organic and all that crap.

So it's come down to this now, fine tuning all the small stuff. It's gonna take time, but I'm getting there.

-----

That's all for now folks :)

Nothing much to report.

Ive relaxed on the exercise a little for the past week. Not sure why. I think its mental. The loneliness is bothering me more than usual lately. Plus i havent had sex in forever, and theres no pussy in sight :p

But on the bright side im finally up to about 71 kilos. So a 10 kilos gain in 60 days. Im happy with that, thats good. I want to push it to 75+ kilos now.

Ill continue to push myself to eat, and to exercise as much as possible. Will report back on my progress again soon.
