Would you be in favour for a BHW app?

Let me paint the picture, I’m on my phone rn too lazy to get to the laptop because we humans like to take shortcuts (an example of this is the poor grammar used in this post :p) I was wondering how convenient a BHW app would be, the ability to update threads on the go and maybe allow a whole new section about things we see in public. Just a thought.

I would love a BHW app.

You can save the website URL to home screen for now it's kind of the same I guess.

I’m fairly certain there’s been a few made in the past, I think one was actually up on the google play store if I remember correctly. But at the end of the day it’s in Damiens hands and the mobile versions works fine.

BHW works well and mobile, and now we have push notifications. I don't think we need an app.

The mobile web app works great, credit to Damien for optimising it to work so well

The web app works brilliantly on the browsers. Damien really did do a great job on the optimisation. It was just a thought I conjured up which I thought I would share :)

There is no need for a app for this site.
It was just something that came to me, I posted it to see how my fellow BlackHatWorldians (or whatever the collective term for us is) would think of the idea. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion :)

I used to have apps in my phone, when my friends didn't know what a phone is. Now, I only have 4 apps in my phone, when they have hundreds. 99% of apps are a overrated. BHW doesn't need an app. It's hard to make money on the phone, unless you do cold calling or close deals.

Fair point, it could help expose BHW to the younger generation like myself. It was jut something I mustered you

*mustered up my apologies

Thanks for the idea it's been posted around the forum a few times. We have a dynamic site with push notifications which gives us more functionality than an app would. If you can think of things that would work on an app rather than the dynamic site with push notifications enabled then please add a feature request by posting in forum suggestions and feedback.

The cost of rebuilding the site as an app would be insanely high (ie as the forum is built with XF, not something conducive to cheaply making an app like if it was built in React/RN).

What that means is building the app(s) from the ground up and integrating them with the data flow from the forum = a huge and costly pain in the ass that would take 6 months at best.

Other platforms that do something like this have an incredibly non-mobile-friendly desktop version so users are actually unable to use the site effectively using mobile. That's a no brainer then - an app makes sense a lot of the time.

But when you have a site built with a framework as mobile-friendly as XF2 is (inherently, they've built it really well for mobile usage, moreso than any other forum framework) then the value in going to the effort and expending the cost of building apps for iOS and Android really isn't there.

I don't know how many new users would find the forum via apps that wouldn't have found it through Google or other communities anyway. I doubt there are tens of thousands of people casually searching for "blackhat seo app" on the AppStore each day.
