Hey all, I'm seeking to land a nice .com for my business URL but all combinations are either taken or are offered at a premium.

Is it necessary or needed to have a .com for SEO and communication purposes? I'm a design studio so would a .studio be just as good if not better than a .com?

Thank you

It's not necessary at all, you can pick any extension you want. If you preferred .com is already taken and you want a .com try to add a suffix or prefix to the keywords, there a lot of variation that you can use

I really don't see problems with .co, .me, .io, .cc, .shop, .info, .eu or anything that makes sense for your business model.

I just try to avoid very bad TLDs, spam or anything that doesn't make sense for my business...

Thanks for everyone's advice. I'm honestly thinking about finding a name with an available .com and buying up all the other available TLDs

It doesn't matter for SEO,
but in terms of branding, I think going with .com domain will be much better

Let me ask you this @Michael Craighead, if you were looking for a product or services online...Will you be equally willing to purchase that product or a service from a .com site than from a .net, .org or any other .tld domain?

Think of it as prime property, there's only 1 - either you or your competitor will get it.

And you will lose the edge forever.

It depends on what brand name you are going with though, 1 word, location specific etc

Good to know. Thank you. I'm still trying to learn about SEO but Branding is exactly why I wish to find a decent .com

I honestly don't pay too much attention to the domain but now that I think about it .net and .org seem just as credible but I wouldn't attribute it to a place that I would purchase a service or product if that makes sense. So I would definitely lean towards a .com.

You're right brother. I had my mindset on a name, I already designed a logo, and the .com of my name is top-level premium. $2,995.00 for the domain, and I just don't have that type of cash to throw around just yet. Good thing I can rebrand quickly and painlessly.

If it's not very brandable, just give it a skip.
Domains like whiteglove.com sold for 5 figure on one of those domain naming platforms awhile back.

So it all depends, if it does matter - take the shot.

I suggest you make sure there are no trademarks or .com developed into a site already.

If it is a parked domain and you absolutely love the name, you could go for other TLDs.

Good luck.

I feel like having a url that finishes your business name is going to become more common as time goes on. For example @Naval on twitter owns the domain nav.al

Much cooler than a .com if you ask me ;)
