The majority of the public isn't gonna get a subscription for a search engine. Google is too big, many have tried and failed.

I agree, for $10, the majority won't subscribe, for $1, some will join.

But if they will receive a financial backing from big VCs, like Softbank, they could offer free of charge service, and become google all over again

I personally think google too greedy for such a thing, nowdays top SERP are only google ads as far as i concern.

I remember when I first come to Internet, got quite a few search engine , now slowly one by one down , Yahoo still around , Bing , Duckoo if i get the name right , still around just that Now Google is like king of Internet , control everything .
