So recently I have found a high authority expired domain and soon it will be available. The authority is really high because it's a former government information page with 20k+ backlinks, I have checked them and they are from good sites, likes universities websites, etc.

The site was an information center about health/healthcare. I am wondering if I manage to get this domain what could be the potential use of it? Could I run healthcare products related store or blog + adsense? I believe 30-40% of backlinks are naked. What do you think?

Yes this is the type of relevant domain with authority you want to make a site in the health niche.

It can help but it won't pass a significant fraction of its authority.

When domains expire google will reset their authority.

You'll inherit only the current active links.

Also most tools will get the authority wrong after expiration.

That has been my experience. Expired domains practically don't work anymore.

is it expired or expiring?

It is expired and currently in quarantine.

Thanks, I guess it’s still worth to try

Well, i wouldn't say that this doesn't sound good hmmm...

Good luck with this, i'd really like to know what happens later on with the domain and your content.

So it is not expired yet.
How do you know it will not be auctioned then?
Or how can you sure to grab be when it expires?

It is expired. After the expiration date the owner has 40 days to renew it’s domain (it’s a law in EU). If domain is not renewed it’s released to the public and whoever orders first, gets it.

I plan to use bot that will grab it as soon as it will be available. But it’s unlikely that someone will buy it, I found it by accident, and that site was never popular in our country.

So it is not expired (yet). If you contact the previous owner now and buy it from him, it will not have expired (assuming he renews then transfers).

Sounds like .fr or similar.

And if it is a good domain, you will not be the only one trying to grab it.

OP, you can't compete with big players, if domain is good. You must build a tool that tries to grab it like 100 times/second. Also, big players use API to get it right away.

There's no point to argue about definition of something. :D It is expired in my eyes because the domain is past the EXPIRATION date and cannot be auctioned or sold by the owner and WHOIS is scheduled for removal. Also the company who had this domain is no longer active.

Yes, I agree, but as I mentioned before it is very likely that no one needs this domain, because it's trash (medium length, not a brand, and mix of english word + my native language word - not appealing at all). In other words backlinks holds the only value, I found a lot of them still active, so unless someone is targeting domains with backlinks, I have a big chance to grab it.

So if the backlinks will give me some advantage, I think it's worth to try and get it, even if I don't know what kind of site I am going to develop :D

Go ahead with that domain and add quality content if you want to get it rank faster
