Is Google bullying VPN users with an excessive captcha solves?

It has come to my attention recently that Google Captcha exercise too much power over the people who are using VPN services or people who are accessing/posting on "controversial" websites like *****. Google Captcha literally asks you to solve the problem sometimes up to 5-10 times before allowing you to proceed with the request.

My question is, why do webmasters choosing Google over other captcha providers? I've seen some good ones (one with umbrella) that only ask you to solve it twice, and it doesn't require you to wait 5 second for faded images to appear. This is straight up a psychological warfare in my opinion.

Yeah Google reCAPTCHA does show up every time I use a VPN. But I get at most 3 to do.

It's chosen over others for the same reason everyone uses every other Google service over others: Free and easy

It's people abusing VPN, that's why it's causing captchas. If you have a private VPN where there are not many people using the IP you are, then you won't have this issue. If google starts charging for recaptcha, people will start using other captchas services. Cloudflare already moved away from Google recaptcha due to price.

Are you sure you're not talking about hCaptcha ( Cloudflare use it )? It happened to me on websites like addmefast.

Yeah 6 times was a record for me. And I got blocked from my own skype while using a nord connection just today. That's a new one!

Yeah but for some (if not most) VPN users, that's a feature: To be lost in the crowd to make it harder to identify who you are (because everyone looks more or less the same). Some VPN services do provide the option to have a dedicated IP, but that's not for me lol.

A serious proxy shouldnt be detected by google.

I'm fairly certain there are trust scores per ip, and if you have a high trust score then you can pass through captchas without having to click in the boxes.

When using VPNs their ips probably have shitty scores from previous users doing dodgy shit.

I remember back in the day with sky broadband (here in the uk) it used to take 10-20 goes just to get the right answer, and there would be lag in between.

Just use a private proxy and you should be good.

How is captcha still the best solution for detecting bots? No other solutions?

From what I've read for the ones where you have to check a box, they also record your mouse movement to that box to see if it's legitimate (a real user would probably wobble a bit)

I usually try to make my mouse movements slightly weird, and it seems to help sometimes

For public/free servers, it's quite common as more people use them to spam the hell out of other sites.

I should kindly thank to community members for your suggestions. The VPN is commercial, and is quite expensive, the servers are located in "Switzerland" where the data extraction isn't easy accessible to the FBI/CIA and snoopy cops who like to come up with a delusional theories so that they can have an excuse to spy on normal people. Just to be humble and accept the proposition that there is a possibility that these IP(s) could've been blacklisted. I'm going to move on.

And by the way, there is also another trend I've noticed with Google. Whenever I switch from Mozilla Firefox to Google Chrome (not that I do this anymore), but the requests for prolonged reCaptcha solves (or if any), suddenly disappears. So the penalty for not allowing Google to data mine you, thus forcing you to deal with an excessive reCaptcha, does exists as well.

Google captcha trust scores has to do with IP, and your google account as well. If you're logged into your google acccount and are always switching IPs with VPNs, your google account will be the main issue. You use your google account with bad IP, then now your account is flagged as well.

If you want the best of both worlds, use double VPN. The second one can be one from a fresh IP.

Depends on which VPN you use. If you use free or cheap ones then they are abused and Google will probably block your requests. Try to use higher quality ones or better create own vpn using AWS or Google Cloud or any other VPS service.
