What plugins to use to create a Community website in WordPress?

A client just sent me the requirements for his new website.

A community website where people can connect with other movie subscribers to chat about movies. Rank movies. Sort movies by genre. Most of the same functions it already has. Some type of Membership site, anything that can just make it different from that template that everyone has. We just need a few unique features.

Basically he needs a community website for movies enthusiast people where they can hang out do lot of different stuff.

I am searching plugins but have never made a community website on WordPress before so wondering if you guys can input your experience and suggest good plugins for the above features.

I have a different perspective then yours I have built 50+ WordPress websites for clients. Things change very fast and by sharing knowledge we all learn and grow. I am NOT asking anyone else to create a website for me, I am asking to share their experience and tell me what plugins are good

it sounds that you will need a custom solution.

as for wordpress forums (and I have several of them for long periods of time) > wp foro seems to be much better than bbpress.

I have a bbpress forum with 3300+ posts and don't ever plan to use bbpress again > wp foro all the way (still, you will need to buy 1 or 2 plugins for it).
