So my monetisation application got rejected for using existing content despite me also having video's without any copyright issues(but they're still snippets from popular media)...

What can I do to get my channel monetized? Put everything on private and use original content? Will my view hours still count?

If it was reupload thing - will suggest you to go with aged yt account and start it again and those use the same videos

My account is from 2016 and I clipped those videos by myself, did not copy from Youtube or any other online site.

I don't know what you mean by clipped but try making your own videos with your own camera, materials. Even if you have a licensed audio or video materials that wouldn't make it unique and could end in REPETITIOUS content.

You used other's video and audio, or only video and you did the voice over?

Reused content refers to channels that repurpose someone else's content without adding significant original commentary or educational value. This policy is taken from the AdSense Search Console portion of AdSense program policies.

More examples of what’s not allowed to monetize (this list is not exhaustive):
  • Clips of moments from your favorite show edited together with little or no narrative
  • Short videos you compiled from other social media websites
  • Collections of songs from different artists (even if you have their permission)
  • Content uploaded many times by other creators
  • Promotion of other people’s content (even if you have permission)
My advice.

Film yourself, add value to the Youtube community by educating them about something that you know best.

You have thirty days to make some changes and you can re apply.

You must create unique videos in order to get approved. Content is the most important factor when it comes to monetization.

If you use excerpts from other people's videos, you need permission from the author to use it. Another option - the shutter speed should be no more than 10-15 seconds.

Just do a live stream with a webcam playing your favorite game lol, its really not that hard

No matter where you clipped your video from, YouTube system is powerful enough to detect that it belongs somewhere. So, just follow what you have been told here. Create your own content or appear in your video.

1. find any how-to article on the web, try to search for a high volume kw
2. get a spokesman from fiverr and let him read that article and explain how to something
3. create your own intro+outro (you already have the skills for that)
4. get traffic (use real ads, no fake traffic!)
5. re-apply

Good luck!

You generally need a voice and/or a face to get monetized nowadays.
There are exceptions to this but they are rare and happen inconsistently.
