Think You're safe with Brave browser? Think Again

So you know how Brave browser is all awesome, no flaws, better than chrome, lets you choose whether you want advertisement, and doesn't collect your data?

Well, turns out this awesome browser is not so awesome after all. Its got its own fair share of skeletons under its search closet.

Apparently once you do a search query for "binance", or "trezor", "Ledger", or "Coinbase", and a few other crypto companies on brave browser it automatically gives you links which, guess what, are really their own affiliate links! Without disclaimers!

Who knows how many millions they've made by now.

Moral of the story, guys THERE ARE NO GOOD GUYS! All of em are out to make big money off you. Not just opt in money. But as much money as they can!!!!! No limits. No ethics.

all the Brave we are different was just a marketing plot I guess.

Because their marketing pitch tells us why we should be able to trust them and this behavior goes against their marketing pitch.

I don't see what the big deal is. so they made some money in affiliate commissions when you used their browser. so fucking what?
did you know that when you buy perfume the guy at the counter makes commissions? does that make him a bad person?

No offence OP but who cares in the big scheme of things. Don't use them so that no money is every made from me, I use them to dramatically reduce the number of ads that are inflicted on me (slowing me down and annoying me) and stopping my data from being stolen (not because of them making money from it, but from the fact that I don't know who the fuck owns it or how it could be used against me in the future).

Crypto exchange affiliate links are a low price to pay for all of that and I'm sure after the article that referenced, they'll probably get rid of that now too anyway.

Logic check: The 31st largest cryptocurrency in the world worth $350M is killing it and has promised to do away with negative advertising practices used by Google, then turns around and makes peanuts of one kind of affiliate links on a handful of sites, potentially ruining their reputation. I don't think so.

Right, ofc. And it has already been gotten rid of yesterday. But this kind of practices, without warnings beforehand (violating FTC guidelines btw) doesn't exactly scream "you are right to trust us."

Who knows what other skeleton lieth undiscovered in the cupboard.
