Ranking Category Pages For E Commerce

Hello all, curious any thoughts on category pages for e-commerce sites and why small sites get their category pages pooped out immediately by Google, but large sites that have all these illicit nonsense backlinks get their category pages ranked front and center with tons of duplicate content and no text, just product titles. Is there any way to get them to actually show these category pages if you are a smaller, not millions of pages cms, or newer website, ie-1 or 2 years old?

Yes. Just create a category page with 3-500 words of content to start with. Depends on how authoritative the domains in the top are.
