Folks I need help.... I seriously do.

Catch is that I have little or NO money to spend.

I am working on a website that "supports" local businesses by promoting them using a wordpress based business directory.

Here is the thing:
- It is not for profit, this means all spending comes out of my own pocket. I do not charge or get monies from this site... (sure some folks will roll their eyes now LOL).
- It is a "lions" initiative, this means I am the key monkey to help them to promote the local businesses. There is a paper based directory which is distributed every year in the local community, the local lions get some income from that. All monies from that are put back in the community via projects. Like helping the elderly, fixing things etc. The normal stuff lions do.
- The site domain is relative new, and I am trying to rank for the town name, yet the competition is stiff.

What I need (ok need is a strong word... yet the best I can come up with).
- actually it is one thing...... HELP me to get my ranking higher. ATM I am non existing on Google.

If you can’t afford or don’t have the knowledge yourself, or aren’t willing to learn, then you shouldn’t have taken it up in the first place.

Also you may want to add a little bit more detail, as I’m still trying to figure out whether you work at a zoo or not

Learn how to rank the site yourself, or scrap the project. Everyone on this forum have their own hustles to worry about, and I'm sure ranking someone else's site for FREE, is far from the top of peoples agenda.

You can go around on blackhat learning how to rank your site since you are low on cash. If you can dedicate time to learning the ropes you would be able to do it yourself or you can hire someone to help you rank it for a price

My 2 cents

This is wrong on multiple levels. The whole story is hard to understand, wtf are the lions doing here? Are you all Leos in the horoscope or what?

You have very slim chances to rank for the name of the town. If it's not a super small place, you are probably competing with official government sites, press, and Wikipedia.

And second, IMO you don't even need that.

Why do you even need this directory? In a small town you know what someone ate for breakfast, let alone what business they run.

It's also important what kind of businesses they are. If it's a bakery, they need clients from the neighborhood. If they sell electric motors, they don't need the locals, as they sell to clients from all parts of the world. Who do these businesses sell to?

Why don't you use social media instead? People are hanging out there rather than searching for their town on Google all day. You can ask people you know to share it for free.

And in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with charging for this service. Businesses are there to make money in the first place, not to support the locals (even though I'm super passionate about social entrepreneurship). If they get exposure and thus make more money, why not run it on a subscription basis? The more money you have, the more you can help the elderly or fix things or whatever you want to do.

Btw, not for profit != nonprofit.

Re knowledge myself.... I am under no illusion that I know it all there are always folks who know more. Other than on page SEO (which I consider myself resonable well educated), I cannot keep up with all the other stuff.

I was hopeing that someone had some good pointers on how to rank a directory for which the domain is less than a yrs old. That's all.

Happy to learn, keen to learn.

It is not so much that I do not have the money myself, I do all the work for free as the local volunteer organisation does not have the budget for it.



Re zoo... perhaps you have heard about lions as in Lions International, which is a large "volunteer organisation" google it if you do not have the knowledge yourself about that organisation. .

What did you expect really? This is BlackHatWorld not PhilanthropyHatWorld. You could always use some of your budget for SEO, on a superficial level, buying links intelligently is what separates a good SEO from a bad one.

Also, trying to sell here without buying Jr. VIP is the highway to the red zone.
