【Urgent Issue 3】Remove Broken Urls Or Not After Restore

Hi All,

This is the third question want to ask kindness your site.

I just used the waybackmachine downloader to recover the site 100%，but as we already known some of pages are not be restored from ARCHIVE.ORG

Hence it will cause the broken URLs happened on the restored site, now I want to know should I keep the URL as previously, use 301 to redirect these pages to homepage.

OR

I should remove these broken internal URLs and keep the anchor here.

Now I just restore from last month，because of reading some tips on BHW that you need keep everything is 100% as before to let the GOOGLE indexed naturally, so want to ask how to handle this question，because I found over 4000 BROKEN URLS on this site.

Over 4000 means, it will not easy to create new relevant content for all. But thats would be the better option.

So you can go with following 2 options which suites for you

Make a custom page and redirect all broken links to this.

Or

Redirect to the relevant page or homepage.

You can always remove these internal links.

There is no point in doing 301 for internal links.

So If I removed these broken links, then the spider crawl to my site and can not found these links which already has some powerful backlinks before.

so it means this kind of powerful URL will be disappeared and showing the 404-page error, but if I keep these broken URLs, even the visitors or spider can not read the actual page, but it will be jumped to the homepage

the backlink juicy will pass from this broken URLs to the homepage

is my opinion right or not?

I think you are confused between internal links and external links.

If you have external links to non-existent pages, either create similar type of page or 301 to home page.

If you have internal links to non-existent pages, just remove those links.
