Left my 9-5 job today

If you want to invest thousands in an online business, you'd better have a plan.

I did the same back in 2016, and now i'm earning nothing (Income break for like 4-5 months). I had to work my ass the previous year just to keep on track with my bills and come back to the normality.

This year i've invested around 600$ into a website, which is around 1 month OLD -> No ads whatsoever, neither conversions.

If you take a huge step like that, don't do what i did: Just leave and don't worry about tomorrow ->> I am that kind of person, though, sometimes it pays off. Well, sometimes IT DOESN'T!

So good luck on your new journey! Making money online is not easy but neither impossible! Make sure to always have a backup situation(Just for your sake).

Forum account since 2018 and it sounds like a thought out decision. I don’t think we need the ‘business is risky’ posts. It’s risky to quit your job. It’s also risky to waste 40+ hours a week working for someone else.

It's important if you are ok with the decision, if it's made for the right reasons and if it's give you the time and space to concern on yourself and make it on your own.

This has been in the works for almost a year but today was my last day of employment. I left a 6 figure white collar job and will be initially taking a cut in pay as I ramp up business. This is a pretty big leap of faith for me.

My self employment gig is not totally IM. I have a consulting gig lined up as well as a few clients for IM. This change will also allow me more time to focus on my IM projects as well.

That's fantastic @Rj268 I done the same thing a few years back - admittedly I was forced into it a little bit, but its turned out to be the best thing I ever done - definitely was a struggle for me initially, taking a cut in pay and also losing all sense of job security. But once things start building up I never looked back. It's a great feeling when you earn the same money for yourself that you were once earning for someone else.

Okay your decision is courageous. I truly hope you have enough money saved up to invest in your online business.

I hope you were able to build a large responsive email list because that's really the asset you need to have a running business online.

I also hope your wife's earnings and the possibility she might also be laid off is pretty slim.

I believe you did not just make this decision out of impulse and it was rather planned out perfectly for the worst case scenario.

This was a long and thought out decision, definitely not impulsive. I've gone into this with the plan to build upon my IM business but I have other income opportunities to support me initially.

As far as my wife's income, it's about as secure as you can get. It is government and even during this pandemic was one of the few that was deemed essential. If she gets laid off we should all be worried.

So good luck on your new journey! Making money online is not easy but neither impossible! Make sure to always have a backup situation(Just for your sake).

Yes, my job really did take up most of my life. On top of the hours I worked, i had an insane commute, one of the worst in the US.Typically taking 4 hours round trip over 135 miles. It left little time and energy to work on my projects. I'm at a point where I have enough client work to make the jump. No way could I do all the client work and keep the 9-5.

As you can see, everybody thinks it's a good idea and believes you will make it!
It's important if you are ok with the decision, if it's made for the right reasons and if it's give you the time and space to concern on yourself and make it on your own.

It doesn't matter how much you make. You just need to get your debt as low as possible, no credit card debts or loans other than a mortgage. Build up a good savings that will cover 6 months of expenses, MINIMUM. Have another income source, side gigs, profitable IM projects, spouse with good income or all of the above.

Congrats! Three years ago, we had our first kid. Year and a half ago we had our second. One year ago, with two kids (a 2 year old and a 6 month old), I convinced my husband to quit his job and start a company of his own. People thought we're nuts. The company is doing great. Will be celebrating the first birthday this June. Two weeks ago I quit my job of 10 years. Planning to start my journey in IM after a well deserved rest. Congratulations for taking this decision. Leaving aside a 6 figure 9-5 job I don´t think is something most of us would be brave enough to do it. I applaud and admire you for it.
