June 28, 2021 - The Updated Marketplace Rules Can Be Found Here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/the-black-hat-world-marketplace-rules.1295700/

We receive a lot of queries regarding the marketplace, more specifically marketplace thread rejections. Below, I've posted what is usually sent in the automated thread rejection message, but I've also added some important information as, over the next few days, we'll be picking up all of the pending BST submissions we've received.

1. My Service Is Very Simple. Why Can't You Just Get It Done Now?
From your perspective, you just submit a thread, receive the details, deliver the product/service, and wait for an approval. However, each marketplace thread takes anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours (1 hour on average) out of our day. During a backlog, a single marketplace mod could be taking on over a hundred threads; that's between 50 and 200 hours worth of reviewing services. The maximum is roughly a third of the time it takes the average person to learn Spanish.

We're not just checking to make sure you delivered your product or service, but we're checking to make sure it's delivered as advertised. This means if you're going to make claims about metrics, native English-level writing, plagiarism-free content, etc; we're going to have to look into all of this for every URL you send us and every website you have. To top this off, we also need to spend time looking into your account in a timely manner, lest we receive reports about us "taking too long".

Please keep in mind that we also receive hundreds of submissions each month. Currently, we manually review each of the threads for consistency, accuracy and deliverability. This review process is one of the many things that makes our marketplace popular with both buyers and sellers alike. However, we’re aware that this these wait times can be frustrating. If you’re interested in promoting your service and already have a website for it, you can contact our sales team who will be able to provide you with details regarding banners, emails, and other promotional opportunities that are available to you. Once your marketplace thread is approved, they will be happy to update any banner link and point it to your approved thread link.

2. Can I resubmit my listing?
If your thread was rejected for marketplace rules or content standard violations, you may resubmit the thread. Please note this restarts the timer on when your thread will be picked up.

If your thread was rejected due to a lack of resources or because it was deemed untestable, please do not contact the reviewing moderator to discuss or argue about the rejection; if we cannot review it, then we just can't review. Instead, you may submit a support ticket using support.blackhatworld.com to see if there's anything that can be done.

3. Why Didn't You Just Edit My Thread?
We used to edit threads with marketplace rule violations rather than reject them. However, this process was done away with due to the number of members who argued, took multiple attempts to send in acceptable revisions, and used the marketplace review thread as an opportunity to find workarounds for their listings. After switching to the rejection policy, we've been processing threads faster and prioritising members who did not falsely tick the box claiming to have read the marketplace rules and content standards. Additionally, by rejecting the threads, sellers with prior rejections almost always submitted an acceptable revision the next time.

4. I've Resubmitted My Thread. Why Can't You Approve It Now?
Resubmitted threads are processed alongside threads that were submitted at the same time as the revision was posted, not when you submitted your first draft.

Additionally, for clarification, a Jr. VIP membership does not entitle anyone to a marketplace thread approval as having a marketplace thread is a privilege, not a right. A Jr. VIP membership allows you the opportunity to submit a thread for processing, in addition to many other privileges both current and upcoming. The wait time may be disappointing, but this is absolutely not a process that should be rushed in any manner.
Why Was My Marketplace Thread Denied?

Having a Marketplace thread is a privilege, not a right, staff are under no obligation to approve any thread and will reject if your service doesn't match the detail of what you're listing.

5. What Can I Do To Get My Thread Picked Up Faster?
While we understand that the wait time can be frustrating, there's not much you can do to get your thread picked up faster. However, certain actions can and will slow down the processing times not just for yourself, but for everyone else waiting for a review as well. These actions are as follows:
  • Engaging in marketplace queue jumping by asking for your thread to be reviewed ahead of others.
  • PMing multiple moderators asking for your thread to be reviewed faster. There are only a handful of moderators who handle marketplace threads, and all of them are meant to review threads in order of the queue.
  • Posting in your thread multiple times before it's been picked up. This makes us think the thread has already been picked up, which causes your thread to fall through the cracks and not get picked up.
6. When My Thread Is Picked Up, What Can I Do To Get It Processed Faster?
The fastest reviews are the ones where the seller preemptively considers what they'll need to offer to the marketplace moderator for the review. For example, if you offer proxies, you could set up an account on your platform for us to use and provide the details on the thread immediately.

However, there are plenty of "don'ts" that many engage in that slow down the review process. These include the following:
  1. Do not argue with the marketplace moderator about any portion of the review process.
  2. Do not ask for an alternate review because you cannot provide your top-level package.
  3. Do not engage in whataboutism ("But THIS guy got a different kind of review").
  4. Do not rush the review in any way. For instance, purchasing an advertising spot for a service that may or may not get approved does not mean you can rush the review.
  5. Do not request a thread edit mid-review, and this goes especially to sellers who submit their threads before their graphic is ready. We no longer entertain mid-review threads edits since your final draft should be submitted.
  6. Do not ask us to pay for your top-level package.
  7. Do not submit multiple marketplace threads for review.
7. This Guy Got A Different Kind Of Review. Can I Have The Same Thing?
miSl7k0

For services we don't typically receive in the marketplace, we may trial various types of review processes for them across multiple BST reviews before settling on one that works. If you see one seller has received an alternate review (e.g., a seller who was asked to submit a video as proof instead of the service itself), this does not automatically entitle you to the same review process. Complaining about unfairness, threatening to escalate the situation to DD, or any other form of arguing will not result in you getting an alternate review process. It will only either slow down your review or result in a thread rejection so that we can focus on the other sellers who have been waiting patiently.

8. I Was Told My Thread Was Not Permitted. What Can I Do?
If your thread is rejected for this reason, there's nothing more you can do to sell your product or service in the marketplace. This is not 'unfair', it's just the way things are.

Please keep in mind marketplace moderators, similarly to regular moderators, enforce the rules provided by the forum owner. Therefore, sending messages questioning their decision, competency or filled with any other insults will not be tolerated. This is no different than screaming at a customer support agent to change something they're not permitted to change, and this will result in a well-deserved mod abuse infraction.

Update: If your service is not allowed, do not try to re-colour your service to make it look like something else. Any sellers caught doing this will receive an infraction as brute-forcing the marketplace in any way is not permitted.

9. You Asked For My Top-Level Package, But That's A Lot Of Money? Can You Do (Insert Request) Instead?
We're required to test your top-level package to ensure that you can deliver the maximum of what you're offering. We cannot make exceptions to this rule as it was provided by the forum owner.
A Moderator will then review your service, you must provide the top level package or service described in your thread. If you are unable to provide this your thread won't be approved.
As stated in the same marketplace rules thread, sellers unable to provide their top-level package will have their threads rejected, especially since we no longer permit thread edits mid-review.

One piece of advice I have for sellers in this situation is to reduce the pricing and amount of whatever you offer in your top-level package to something that you can deliver. This is the only way you'll be allowed to offer something "less" to the reviewing moderator.

10. I'm Going Through Something Difficult Because Of The Pandemic. Can I Be The Exception?
I posted about this already in the Jr. VIP forum. If you're a Jr. VIP, you can view it by clicking this link here (if you don't have Jr. VIP, you won't be able to see this thread).

Many of us are going through something difficult right now because of the pandemic. I'm not even going to get into my own personal situation because I'm not going to use it as an excuse for anything or to try to get my way. But the stories we receive on a daily basis will not, make you the exception. It's not that we're heartless, it's just not how things work. If we start making one person the exception, we'll have to apply that to everyone, and you don't want to see the chaos that results from that.

11. The Mod Didn't Read My Thread Properly! Can I Get A Mod Who Can At Least Read The Thread?
I've seen this a few times now. A marketplace moderator mixes up one BST with another and either accidentally rejects it or sends them the wrong details for the review. A couple of times, I've even seen sellers patronise and insult the capability of the marketplace moderator.

Something important to keep in mind here is that marketplace moderators need to go through dozens of threads a day. Many of these threads contain a wide variety of headache-inducing fonts, syntax errors, poor formatting, garish graphic designs, and more. Chances are that a mistake will be made at some point. If your thread receives the wrong details or is rejected for what is clearly a mistake, it's important to professionally bring this up to the reviewing moderator. As long as you're respectful, no marketplace mod has an issue with a mistake being pointed out and will happily try to rectify the issue as soon as possible.

12. BHW 2.0 July Update: Issues With The Marketplace
Edit July 4, 2020: This has now been mostly been mostly, but still contributed to the issue, so I'm leaving it up.

BHW 2.0 is out now, and this is great news as it means we can start focusing on marketplace 2.0 and improving the forum once all of the issues with BHW 2.0 have been ironed (and they're being ironed out fast).

Unfortunately though, because of the update, we are currently experiencing some issues with the marketplace that means we're unable to review any pending sales thread. Some of you may have noticed a few serious issues, namely not receiving an automated PM response about your submission or the approvals coming from an account other than the mod who reviewed your sales thread. A handful of you will still receive approvals whilst we work through these issues, but there's currently no ETA on when these will be fixed. If anyone experiences payment issues, please send in a support ticket using support.blackhatworld.com.

13. Why Can't I Sell (Insert Prohibited Service) Here?
This is an add-on to point #10. We're getting a lot of sellers coming here and trying to open the online equivalent of a garage sale. To clarify, your products need to be related to internet marketing. As an example, Netflix accounts are not related to internet marketing, and the argument that "well, you might be watching Netflix while working" doesn't make it related.

14. Can I Just Resubmit My Rejected Prohibited Service In Hopes That It'll Get Approved?
No, sellers are not permitted to brute-force the marketplace. We've had some persistent sellers who keep trying to resubmit the same service after we've told them it's not allowed, and some sellers have even tried being cheeky by disguising their service. Example: their hacked Twitter accounts thread gets rejected, so they remove all mentions or implications that their accounts are hacked. This does not work because we keep a record of every rejected thread.

15. But I Really Do Have The Best/Cheapest/Safest _________? Can I Say This Now?
We get messages from time to time from defensive sellers who think their thread was rejected on personal grounds. "I really do have the cheapest services, and I dare you to find one cheaper", some have said. Aside from the fact that we will not a seller's marketplace research for them, we don't allow these claims because they're unquantifiable, meaning you can't prove them. For instance, someone can see your pricing and offer the service cheaper than you can. As for being the best service, well, that's subjective.

16. I Talked To A Member/A Group of Members Who Said Reviews Are Taking Months/Years/Whatever... Is This True?
So you've been waiting a while and you think it's a good idea to ask your friends and other Jr. VIPs how long their review process has taken.

There are a multitude of reasons why asking other Jr. VIPs about their reviews is not an accurate gauge as to how long your review will take.
  1. There are BSTs that take longer to review because the seller has a long TAT. Therefore, if they were waiting 2 weeks before their thread gets picked up, took 1 month to deliver, and waited a week for the final review; they'll say it took over a month and half to get reviewed.
  2. A handful of BSTs are skipped when we don't have the supplies to review them. A common problematic BST we receive is an on-page SEO service, where the seller needs access to one of our sites. As we don't have an unlimited number of websites and we've had numerous sites ruined from the BSTs we've rejected, it takes time to set things up again.
  3. A handful of are intentionally delayed whilst we investigate the background of certain sellers who are suspected of being previously banned members or bought accounts. We skip to the next sellers in the queue whilst these investigations are ongoing, but the skipped sellers tend to complain regardless.
  4. Some sellers actually drag their reviews out by arguing or making threats, the latter of which results in a rejection. Funny story on the latter point, we actually had one guy not too long ago who preemptively attempted to rush the review by threatening us with a negative Buzzfeed article. You just can't make this stuff up. Anyway, this is less common than it used to be, but it still happens. These same sellers then complain about how long their review has taken.
  5. Other sellers cannot see the review queue or threads in-progress. We've actually had a few sellers last year ask us why their review was taking so long when they were "the only one in the queue". Needless to say, they weren't the only one, they just couldn't see the other submissions.
17. After Waiting So Long, My Thread Was Rejected For Not Being As Advertised. Why Wasn't My Thread Approved?
The length of time you're waiting does not increase the chances of your thread being approved. If, after waiting several months, the marketplace team rejects your thread because you delivered a lower quality service than you advertised, we will reject your service to protect the buyers who browse this forum.

18. Why Was The Quality Of The Written Content Of My E-book Commented On In The Review?
I just saw a seller complain about another moderator's review today, and thought I'd clarify the review process for e-books further.

When you submit an e-book for review, we cannot actually comment on what's inside the e-book, lest we be bombarded with complaints that we've 'revealed too much information', thus rendering the sale of it 'obsolete'. Rather, a brief confirmation that the written content of the e-book covers what's advertised will be provided instead. In addition to this, we'll comment on the readability of the e-book as we expect written content to be presented professionally and coherently. Therefore, an e-book addled with spelling and grammatical errors does not fit the mold of professional or coherent as this demonstrates the seller did not bother having the e-book edited, as any real author would have their book edited to professional standards, regardless of the format.

19. My BST Along With Several Others Were Picked Up, But Now I'm Waiting A Long Time For The Review. What Gives?
If everyone rushes to have their reviews picked up, then the reviews takes longer because there are more active reviews going on at once. Essentially, it moves from one bottle-neck to the other.

20. Why Is My Review Not As Detailed As Others?
Due to the increased demand and the number of sellers who decided to rush the marketplace moderators for reviews, we've had to sacrifice how much detail we add in our reviews. This doesn't mean that we don't check these services thoroughly, as we're still rejecting just as many services as before. Rather, that the review format is standard and tweaked slightly for the type of service being offered. Some of you may be familiar with the “Fast, Cheap or Good? Pick Two" business concept. That's what's been applied here. You pick two, but you can't have all three from us.
NrNgQJo

Another misconception is that we'll provide everyone with glowing reviews that'll help you get more sales. This is not true as the purpose of the review is to confirm that you, the seller, can deliver what you advertise in a professional manner. If you deliver a product but give the review moderate an attitude during the review process, this will be reflected in the final review.

21. Bro...?
Added in by @Mr Positive's request.
@Zwielicht you forgot most important do nots ( don’t call mods a bro). Also an excellent thread and very transparent too

Important Notice
Sellers in the marketplace need to display a professional attitude. Therefore, any threats or insults toward marketplace moderators or the forum will not be tolerated at all. If you resort to this, you will receive an infraction for mod abuse and any pending sales threads you have will be rejected. The infraction will mean that you will not be able to submit any new threads until the infraction expires. If you feel your thread was unfairly rejected, please submit a support ticket using support.blackhatworld.com; do not PM the marketplace moderator.

If you purchased Jr. VIP membership solely to sell on the forum and are unhappy with the wait times, you may submit a support ticket requesting a refund using our support portal at support.blackhatworld.com. As long as you're eligible for a refund, we will be happy to oblige you.

1. Why Are You Only Now Picking Up The BSTs?
We've been picking them up at a reasonable pace, but this is currently no longer feasible due to the massive increase in volume. Quality needs to be maintained for each review and we cannot sacrifice quality in favour of quantity. However, as the backlog has been piling up, some of us will be forgoing our usual primary duties on the forum to focus entirely on clearing the marketplace backlog.

Additionally, we've begun pre-reviewing threads to ensure they're compliant with the marketplace rules and content standards. At the moment, we're aiming to have pre-reviews completed within 72 hours. Note that this does mean your thread will be completely reviewed, just that it will be added to our list of pending threads.

2. Why Is It All Taking So Long?
Prior to the pandemic, we were receiving over twice as many threads compared to previous years. During the pandemic, we're now not only receiving three times as many threads compared to previous years, but many new sellers have not been reading the marketplace rules and content standards, slowing down the process significantly for everyone. This, combined with the fact that we currently only have a handful of marketplace moderators processing threads means that it's taking much longer for services to go through the review process.

Indeed! it's all about respect and being professional :)

Today I had to reject a sales thread because the "handwritten" content was plagiarised. For reference, here's a snippet of the article I received:
The Orbital Sander
An orbital sander has a sanding surface moving in a very tight orbital motion, its movement pattern forming little rings. It moves at high speed, and an electric motor powers it.

The movement of its head derives the name, Orbital Sander. It moves around in little circles, also called orbits, and this sanding tool also has subcategories that are best for different purposes. This includes the orbital sander and Random Orbital Sander.

  • Orbital Sanders
These are large sheet sanders with a rectangular or square base. This kind of sander is substantially bigger and more powerful than Palm Sander. In terms of metrics, the average size of an orbital sander is

140 x 216 mm, or 1/2 sheet of paper
And here is the original article the seller plagiarised: https://www.finepowertools.com/sanders/orbital-sander-vs-palm-sander/

In addition to this, he didn't even bother reading the full message I sent him and delivered the article via PM, something I specifically tell sellers not to do.

I may be picking up a large number of sales threads, but this doesn't mean I'm skipping out on checking everything. Sellers who think it's the time to be cheeky will be receiving an infraction for 2 months, because you're not only wasting my time, but contributing to the backlog.

How can I sell site on here and be guaranteed I get buyers attention?

That's on the topic of marketing your sales thread. I'm actually planning on writing up another thread that goes over that. Currently, I have a post that goes over this, but it can only be viewed in the Jr. VIP Zone.

However, BHW can't guarantee you'll get the attention of the buyers here. There are just too many factors involved in selling here that contribute to the success of a service.

Today I had to reject a sales thread because the "handwritten" content was plagiarised. For reference, here's a snippet of the article I received:

And here is the original article the seller plagiarised: https://www.finepowertools.com/sanders/orbital-sander-vs-palm-sander/

In addition to this, he didn't even bother reading the full message I sent him and delivered the article via PM, something I specifically tell sellers not to do.

I may be picking up a large number of sales threads, but this doesn't mean I'm skipping out on checking everything. Sellers who think it's the time to be cheeky will be receiving an infraction for 2 months, because you're not only wasting my time, but contributing to the backlog.

Thread link for my own reference: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/1213447/
Bro!!!

Thanks for making everything clear.

I am excited to buy the Jr.Vip Status ASAP.

What is the ETA for thread approval? I'm cool with waiting, would just be nice to have a set time period for planning reasons. I've had mine submitted for over 1.5 months and haven't received a PM from a mod. Thank you!

You're #20 in the queue for threads that are still awaiting a reviewing moderator. It'll be most likely picked up in the next batch of threads by the @iModBot account this weekend if not early in the week.

Where am I in the queue? :)
#62 in the queue for threads that are still awaiting a reviewing moderator .

Your resubmission has already been checked over for rule and content standard violations (so you don't need to worry about another rejection). It'll be picked up by @iModBot when it's next in the queue.

Thank you for making these updates!

May I know where I am in the queue as well?

You can move my BST down the list, awaiting response for the 'moderator-in-training' :D

1 month in. Hoping August is my lucky month. :) Thanks Z

Edit: I just realised you were asking about your thread that was already picked up by another reviewing moderator ages ago. I sent you a response via PM so that we can this processed immediately.
If you have time please check my queue
Hi,

May I know where am I in the queue?

Thanks! :)
I've got some great news for all of you. Every BST that was submitted before yesterday at 3 AM (PST) has been picked up. All of you should now have a response from @iModBot.

Since this is becoming a "where am I at in the queue" thread, I'm closing it down.
