Macbook or laptop for working on IM?

It's perfect for IM great keyboard decent mousepad I would use an external mouse though, supper rugged will last forever.

If you want something comparable to a macbook air you can get the X1 Carbon

they have different generations, a good one is the 3rd gen from 5 years ago. Sells for around $400 really good machine.

I like my laptops a little smaller so I have the the X240. Really old though but its still great.

Occasionally I used my old desktop consisting a core-i3 2100 (2nd gen) processor along with 8 gigs of RAM and 120GB SSD up until a few months ago and I didn't notice any difference for regular IM work, just minor lags here and there

I turned it into a plex server later (In your face netflix).

I was a Windows fanboy, and then I bought Macbook and never looked back...

Just kidding, I have Mac and Windows PC - I use both but I prefer using Macbook for IM and business stuff

I installed Plex software on the pc and moved a lot of TV shows and movies on it (Fits around 80% of the 2TB HDD).

Whenever I get the time to watch anything, I just turn it on and connect to it via my Tablet/Phone, works just like Netflix.

There are a lot of tutorials around the web on how set this whole thing up.

I work from a 2012 macbook pro 13 inch, with SSD and 16gb I installed. I can RDP in to VPS for windows apps. Works well, but the 2nd disc is dead and I have recked the keyboard...

However, I am about to upgrade to a 2017 model for about £600. Max the RAM and disc and good to go for another 5+ years.

why the 2017 model? You going above 16GB? You ever considered putting windows on a mac?

Power you need a PC.

Macbook for longevity and reliability.

I've had the mot expensive PC laptops and macbook pros...

I always go with the Macbook.
