So the more I read on this forum the more I'm changing my mind about blackhat methods for my new blog. Reason being that everyone successful has stated again and again that you need to love your blog since you'll be putting so much time into it. If I'm going to be putting a lot of time into my blog I can't imagine how devestated I would be if I got hit with a google penalty. For that reason I want to stick to only white hat seo but there's one problem.
I don't exactly know the difference in all cases. I know some stuff falls into the grey category but I don't really care about the ethics behins it. All I care about is if I get manually reviewed I don't want to receieve a penalty.
So does anyone know of a post on here or website that can give a clear definition of what would put me in the safe zone and when I'd be flirting with danger? I understand Google's perspective is they don't want people manipulating the algorithm, they simply want to provide an answer to peoples questions and make money off of ads. I get that. But I've been reading about linkbuilding and from what I understand it's not exactly clear to me as what's considered good for google and what is not.
There's also an emphasis on how you name your anchor text when you get backlinks. This concerns me and I want to play it safely.
For example I have a really good understanding of reddit in general. I'd love to be able to do the following:
1. Create a subreddit specifically tied to my blog and post blog updates there with a reddit account that has my exact name domain.
2. Post links to my blog in related subreddits as posts under that same username.
3. Post links to my blogs in response to users in the appropriate subreddit when it's allowed by moderators.
If I do all of that do I need to worry about how I anchor my comments and posts? Can they be exact copies of what my blog post says?
Thats just one aspect of my probably irrational concern about incurring a google penalty. But I'd love your feedback on what's okay and whats not according to google standards. Thanks in advance guys!
