If this is true i am losing a lot of traffic... By my GSC i have 0.9% average ctr last 3 months and 8.9 average position...

Yes, thats not a secret. Test it by yourself....and I even go one step further and say the rankings are not only crucial for the CTR, but the actual user behavior. The conversation rate (no matter if its ecommerce or a CPA website) will be higher if you are in the top 3.

Everyone knows it even before Brain Dean said it. The first three results get the most traffic. You can improve it by making changes to titles so it looks more relevant to the user making the search.

It varies between niches and search terms, like for instance an obvious example is the CTR for Donald Trump age is super low because the answer is displayed in a snippet/knowledge graph. Whereas some other terms might have a higher than average CTR as people do more clicks for some specific terms and less for others.

So there is those elements, but the first place to start improving CTR is title and meta desc.

Every niche and SERP is different. There are so many variables that come into play here. I'm guessing he's averaging this out, but I've seen data that has the #1 spots getting 20% more CTR.

The pareto principle is in effect here, as with most things in life.

20% of the people ranking on the front page are receiving 80% of the traffic.

Sounds about right to me. Of course its an average and will vary depending on niche, keywords and results, but I would say its roughly right.

He forgot to mention the three ad spots, which means 1st spot gets 30% of the remaining 25%, that's 7.5%.
